March 7, 2012 LETTERS FROM PAGE 4 People continue to keep the cycle going with anonymous and petty letters of slan- der and hate. You keep proving you are no better than the ones you despise! I accept the community as a whole, and I am will- ing to listen to everyone, even you! Who have I betrayed? Cowards write like you do. I am no coward, I will not hide behind you or your childish ways. When I write, you will know it's from me. When I am upset with someone, that person will know that I am, and why. I refuse to get a license for my website that promotes Quartzsite? I certainly never said that! Matter of fact I have picked up the application. You think this type of slan- der helps all of you with your campaign. Think again. I know the folks I have talked to, which are many of your friends, are sick and tired of this kind of childish behavior! Maybe I should, file a formal complaint on your anonymous campaign letter? It takes adults to run a town, not a bunch of sniveling children who have to have their own way all the time. Candidate for Mayor, Jenny Mills Mary's Retiring! Mary Tiensvold, Jo Domorod, and Loni Peterson www.DesertMessenger.com By Joanne Winer For the past two years, every other Satur- Cruise In and Car Show in memory of Gene Clark to be held March 17 day night has been the scene of what is known as the Quartzsite Cruise In--the Shell Station on the corner of B-10 and Hwy 95 in the cen- ter of town hosts all kinds of antique, vintage and classic vehicles--cars, trucks, motorcy- cles, tractors, etc. and everyone comes out to see what there is on display. It has become a great event for the people in town to have a place to spend some time on a night when nothing much else is going on, and for fami- lies to bring their kids out to see all the great vehicles on display. One of the biggest and most regular en- thusiasts to come to each Cruise-in was local buff Gene Clark, who brought his 1940 Bright yellow Ford convertible that he affectionately called "Tweety Bird". He was always at the Cruise-ins and everyone just loved his car. When Gene passed away this past month, the rest of the "guys" decided they wanted to do something special in his memory. As the second anniversary of the Cruise Ins was ap- proaching, they thought of doing a barbecue again, and dedicating it to Gene. It was de- cided to have the Fire Dept. provide the bar- becue this year, and so it will be held at the Fire Dept. on Tyson Dr. on Saturday, March 17, at 12 p.m. Anyone who wishes to bring their antique, vintage or classic vehicle should meet at the Shell Station at 11 a.m. that day--they are planning a cruise around the town and end- ing up at the Fire Station for the barbecue. The lunch will cost $5.00 per person, with all proceeds going to the Fire Dept. This is just a great way for everyone who knew Gene to honor his memory by being part of what he really loved. Paid for by Mike Jewitt, PO Box 450, Quartzsite, AZ 85346 4 Reasons to Vote YES on • The mayor has no more power than any other member of the council, whether elected or appointed. • Our town was originally founded with an appointed mayor. We are just putting things back the way they were. • If a mayor over steps his authority once appointed, he can be removed from the mayor's seat without a costly recall. • You, as a voter will do your best job to elect the best can- didates for council. That strong council will do a good job to pick the best person for the job. The League of Arizona Cities and Towns, whose role it is to connect Arizona cities and towns, represent their interests in legislative issues, and provide technical information to them, strongly encourage us to go to an appointed mayor rather than an elected mayor.
