This edi- tion of the paper was a bit challenging, as the Chili Cook-off and Rock Auction demanded much of my time. Add to that a computer that is tired and worn out. So instead of doing nothing and letting "evil triumph" I searched for a new wiz bang computer. What a deal by Shanana "Rain" Golden-Bear I found! However, the new computer doesn't like my design program and half of the fonts were missing. Oh, the fun of technology. Anyway, to get through this issue, it's back to my old and tired friend, at least for the time being. Future issues may have a new updated look to them, hopefully... Beyond the normal deadline crunches, political season always brings on a few challenges of its own. Last year, I of- fered all candidates the opportunity to address their constituents with a ques- tionaire. Many chose not to respond. Those who did respond were respect- ful in their answers. What a difference a year makes! Candidates' answers be- gin on Page 26 of this issue. Many took offense to publishing their physical addresses. So, those objections were honored. The questions were mostly the same asked last year, with a few ad- ditional due to recent events. There is some very interesting reading. I hope everyone takes the time to research the candidates and VOTE on Tuesday, March 13th. As stated many years ago, I won't publicly endorse a candidate or issue. My personal feelings on who I vote for are mine to have. And I sure hope my opinion would not sway you anyway. I'm not that important. Living in community with so many snowbirds, folks are often curious as to how long a person has chosen to live in Quartzsite. I'm being asked regularly by visitors if I stay the summer and how do I cope with it. It makes for some very interesting discussions. Choosing to settle down in Quartzsite was not a simple decision for me, as I'm sure it's the same for many. Dealing with the intense climate, the dual aspect of the community, the rugged environment, rural living, and everything Quartzsite has to offer, brought on hours of delib- erations with family and friends. So I March 7, 2012 was very surprised that some running for office didn't think it was important for voters to know. Maybe they're right, maybe they're not. But I do wish we could have had a Meet the Candidates with everyone invited to discuss this and other issues unique to Quartzsite. Many folks have approached me seek- ing answers to who they should vote for, as if my sole proprietor business can be compared to a larger corporate daily newspaper. I worked for those corporations and did not appreciate my boss deciding who they thought would be a better candidate. Just ain't gonna happen here! So that's why I offered the candidates to speak to you directly for free. This gives the voters a chance to read, in their own time and place, the actual words of people vying for their votes. Back to the message of the quote. What I like best about that quote is the familiar teachings of if you want some- thing to happen, get out there and make it happen. I hear so many folks com- plain about something not being done the way they want. However, when challenged with the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and "get 'er done" sud- denly it's not important anymore. Quartzsite continues to be a wonder- ful place to live, work and play, even with all the challenges. Every day I witness folks "stepping up to the plate" and lend their time and enegery where needed. What a blessing to witness. If I were just hanging out at home, being mad at the world, I'd be missing out on all the ac- tivities around town. And seeing all the helpful people giving of themselves. If you want to make a change in the world, you must participate. How we choose to participate in life is up to us, but we must, or life will "just happen". So I suggest you get out there and Vote, at least participating in that way, if not get out and volunteer to make a change in your world. Remember, if you do nothing.....
