Page 26 Town of Quartzsite Election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Candidates for Mayor are Ed Foster, Jerry Lukkasson, Jen- ny Mills. Candidates for Town Council are Sean Austin, Starr BearCat, Barbara Cowell (incumbent), Jennifer Jones, Bill Moore, Mark Orgeron, Dean Taylor, Joe Winslow (incument), and Patricia Workman. Run- ning in a special election for a two-year term vacated by Mayor Jose Lizarraga, is Mike Jewitt (incumbent). John Prutch filed papers to be a write-in candidate. As another free service of Desert Messen- ger, all candidates were given the oppor- tunity to answer five questions, along with background information. Candidates were asked to limit their response to 500 words. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order, as listed on the ballot. Sunsetters Investments 1) I have had over 100 employees at a time, manage and oversaw the develop- ment of McCormick Woods, a 1200 lot development along with a 90 acre Golf course 2) Stop the negative energy that has cursed this town and start doing business to attract business. Provide vendor and business owners as much support as pos- sible and ask the town to take an active role in promoting this town. 3) I served on the Council until running for Mayor. I have been involved as a volun- teer assisting the Arizona Centennial Com- mittee. I have taken an active role in the construction of our snack shack. 4) The ability to attract solid year round business to our community to increase the sales tax revenue that we rely on to support our town. 5) I would like to see one of the solar projects off the ground with a work force that contributes to our town's well being. I would like to see the BLM open up land sales within our town limits. Along with a larger work force, I hope to see construction of affordable housing for our community along with the amenities and shopping that goes along with this type of growth. I am in every respect, a logical, business minded person who knows how to read and understand budgets, blueprints, can haggle over bids so we get more for our money and keeps the costs of doing town business to a minimum, without wasting money on things the town does not need. I am not political at all. 2) Promoting with in La Paz, Mohave County and throughout the US, working with their chambers, at county fairs etc, to make sure Qz is part of the attractions year round. I'd like to get the vendors on a more even scale with Qz. Let them know they are wanted. Streamline the application process. Find out what it will take to keep them here longer. The town's website is in need of major upgrading so potential visi- tors can plan their itinerary with the cor- rect information/dates. Attract new events and attractions to entertain everyone. 3) I use the food a few of my elderly tenants get from the food bank and make healthy meals for them so that they are eating well every day. Any food we don't use gets given back to the food bank. I donate to Salva- tion Army often. I have helped many, who were down on their luck, by giving them a place to stay, clothing and food. I help se- niors with forms and SS issues, setting up their cell phones and many basic needs. 4) Responsible Planned Growth. I will on a daily basis, scout, recruit and meet with potential clean energy business, light in- dustry, galleries, doctors and the service industries, a growing town needs. All proceeds will go to Scholarship Fund. Start and finish at intersection of Kofa and Saguaro Streets. Registration from 9am-10:30am. Last rider in by 12:30pm. Prize awards at 1pm. Must be present to receive awards. Limit of 100 vehicles. Open to ATV, UTV, Buggies, Jeeps. 12 MILE FUN RUN. 60% payout- 40% Scholarship fund.
