March 7, 2012 CANDIDATES FROM PAGE 26 As business move here, families and re- tires will. This in turn brings employment. Which all ensures the tax revenue made, will sustain the town budget. And the com- munity gets what it needs and wants. 5) In five years I envision Quartzsite with a Main Street that has a mix of vendors and small business, galleries and restaurants. Central Street would have a mix of person- al and medical services, entertainment and small business. Light industry would be a major contributor to the town's economy and good paying jobs on the outskirts of town. A small sporting municipal building. Opening a co-op of local artists, gallery, that will attract visitors year round, is high on my list. It might take a bit longer but Rome wasn't built in a day! This is possible through collaboration of businesses, government and residents of Quartzsite. Before this can happen we need a stable government and a community will- www.DesertMessenger.com ing to work together to bring this about. 3) I am a co-founder of Proud Neighbors of Quartzsite, established to help provide benefits to local charities and non-profit or- ganizations by promoting the community of Quartzsite; I'm currently on the Planning and Zoning and Municipal Utilities Board; am a member of Quartzsite Rotary and volunteer in organizations benefiting Quartzsite. 4) a) The most important issue facing Quartzsite is to establish a stable govern- ment that is open to the people, allowing in- put from everyone in a respectful manner. b) We need to increase year-round full-time businesses and employment opportunities. c) For our growth, we need affordable hous- ing- low income, single and multi-family dwelling units. BLM should open the land sales for industry, housing, & recreation. d) Continue to work towards using our Colo- rado River water rights and find a way to improve Quartzsite water quality. e) The schools in Quartzsite are sorely lacking in funding and quality of education. Our children are our most important asset, they are our future. f) In- crease promotion of Quartzsite through so- cial media and nationwide marketing. 5) Five years from now I would hope to see a year-round thriving community that maintains the flavor of Quartzsite, moving into the 21st Century. General Education: Diploma Employer: Arizona Westcoast Realty I have never been arrested. 1) As a councilman since September 1, 2009, I worked with budgets and grants. I had to make some hard decisions. With my experiences as a school board member, 15 years with the Post Office and several man- agerial positions I have learned finances and budgets. Living in a small community I have worn many hats and learned to be a team player. 2) Quartzsite needs an Office of Tourism to open here and be managed profession- ally. With the backing of the Mayor and Council new business will be more apt to settle here and prosper. 3) I have continued to work as a coun- cilman making the hard decisions to move our town forward, example, revising codes to reflect the needs of our community. As a team player I have helped to keep the town budget balanced. In my private life as a Rotarian (sense 1996) I help to raise funds for the children (scholarship and diction- aries) food bank, little league, and a new pocket park. 4) Stabilty: for our neighbors, winter resi- dents. venders, and tourists, most impor- tant our town government. 5) My vision will perserve the essence of Quartzsite while planning for a mul- tipurpose center to attract all forms of entertainment. JENNIFER JONES Address - Quartzsite - but Rain, you've been in my yard when I wasn't home, so you already knows where I live. How long - This is my eleventh season here and I look forward to the much anticipated BLM land sale, so that we may no longer need to pay rent. How long legal resident-This question is not specific enough to answer properly. When you say "legal", which law are you referring to; tax law, voter law, or motor vehicle law? Each one has different resi- dency requirements. Party to legal action - I have no currently filed court case against the town, as of this date. Arrested - In my entire life, I have been convicted of no crime, here or in any other state. However, immediately after declaring my intention to run for office in the fall of 2010, I was falsely arrested by the Quartz- site Police Department five times in thirteen months - an abuse of the legal process and a tremendous waste of taxpayer money. Education - college Degrees - My education in fine art and mu- sic is not relevant to the position I'm run- ning for, but my "PHD" from the "school of hard knocks" might be. Employer - Just read my notarized candidates financial disclosure. Oh, wait, I'm sure you al- ready did. So then why are you asking such a redundant question instead of something re- lated to the issues currently facing the town?
