December 21, 2011 Hi Jolly Cemetery Board grateful A big thank you from the Hi Jolly Cemetery Board goes to those that came to help us dedicate the Hi Jolly Monument being placed on the Na- tional Register of Historic Places. It was a grand affair and we appreciate State Representative The Honorable Nancy McLain and Arizona's Humanities Council Execu- tive Director Brenda Thomson giving their time to help us celebrate. There are many others that deserve a big thank you, our ceremony came togeth- er because of you – you made Quartz- site proud. To those that came to lis- ten, thank you also. Thanks also go to the Historic Play- ers that came back from the October 29th Spirit Walk –we know it wasn't an easy trip. Thank you all! Bye for now, Patricia Anderson Quartzsite Town Council Comments wanted re: Quartzsite Solar Tower Quartzsite, AZ - A public meeting on the proposed Quartzsite Solar Energy Project was held Dec. 14th in Quartz- site. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Western Area Power Administration presented information to the public regarding the proposed project and the proposed amendment to the BLM Yuma Field Office Re- source Management Plan. BLM released the draft Environ- mental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Quartzsite Solar Energy Project in early December. The release of the draft EIS begins a 90-day period in which the public can comment on the proposed project and the proposed amendment to the BLM The comment period ends Feb. 10, 2012. Quartzsite Solar Energy, LLC, a sub- sidiary of SolarReserve, LLC, proposes to construct a 100-megawatt solar- powered electrical generation facility on 1,675 acres on BLM-administered land 10 miles north of Quartzsite and adjacent to Arizona State Route 95. The project would also include a thermal energy storage system. In addition to evaluating whether to allow use of the land, the BLM is eval- uating a proposal to amend the Yuma Field Office Resource Management Plan, which was adopted in January 2010. The amendment would change the visual resource management class for the proposed site to a category that would allow construction of a tower. The proposed project and the pro- posed plan amendment are considered in the draft EIS and are open to public comment. The public can comment on the draft EIS at the public meetings, by mail, or by e-mail until Feb. 10, 2012.
