I guess I'm just a little busy sharing incredible sto- ries about the beautiful people in our community. When folks are caught up in the spirit of giving of themselves, commu- nities thrive. Quartzsite is a one-of-a-kind place, welcoming to everyone. But I gotta tell ya, when I hear lies being spread about upstanding people in our community, whether it be in print or online, it hurts my heart, for I know those lies tear apart communities. As Tecumseh said, a bundle is strong. Just as when a group of people come together for the benefit of others, the whole is stronger than a single. When people are of one heart and one mind, and stand together against the wind, miraculous events can occur. Sometimes those miracles are small, and we may take them for granted. The beautiful people I have met in Quartz- site help me keep the faith in human- ity. There is something special here... However, with the election season fast approaching, stories will be told, facts may be misconstrued, private in- formation may be shared, and people may just get down and dirty in their quest for winning at all costs. Are we becom- ing so disconnected, to the point of forgetting that we are all related? All major religions share these teachings; that we are all brothers and sisters; about doing unto others as you would have them do unto you, and becoming a better human being. At this time of year, it is good to re- member the spirit of the season- that of "Peace on Earth", "Goodwill to- wards men", "Joy to the world", etc. I have hope that we can continue to bring these messages of peace, joy, love and hope into our whole commu- nity and into the future. Adapted from an Aesop's fable: "You my children, are like these sticks," the old woman said. "If you go your sepa- rate ways, quarrelling, and holding resentments toward one another, you will each be alone like the individual sticks. The difficulties of life will easily hurt you. But if you work together, ap- preciate each other's strengths, cherish what you share in common, and care for each other, you will be strong like the bundle of sticks, and nothing in life can break you. Find strength and joy in one another's company, and you will live well and accomplish much." May the peace of the season be with you always! DEADLINE is WED.
