M 2, 2011  LETTERS FROM PAGE 5 What would disincorporation mean for Quartzsite? ARS 9-102 describes. http://www.azleg.state. az.us/FormatDocument. asp?inDoc=/ars/9/00102. htm&Title=9&DocType=ARS • Property becomes worthless • Taxes skyrocket • Rents skyrocket (to pay taxes/water) • No property protection • Water/Sewer rates skyrocket by private companies • Many properties abandoned/RV • Parks closed • Services non-existent • Snowbirds & vendors go elsewhere • Quartzsite becomes a ghost town, etc. Arizona ARS 9-102 states, current debts SHALL be “totally” paid by levying fees on all property owners until paid. No one would buy property in Quartzsite AT ANY PRICE. The county would run Quartzsite and take all taxes. With the Yakima debt, how much do you think they would spend on protection and amenities in Quartzsite? Most people would leave Quartzsite, property would be abandoned with no one to clean things up. Does the opposition own any property here? How convenient, they can move when costs skyrocket. Property owners and some renters can’t move. MANY feel La Paz County STRONGLY encourages and secretly SUPPORTS people to disincorporate Quartzsite. Someone has to pay the Yakima debt. MANY also feel Parker wants to make sure Quartzsite goes under so Quartzsite can’t vote to be the County Seat. The Parker Pioneer wrote a big editorial on 2-16-2011 titled “A proposal for Quartzsite”. “We have a proposal for dealing with Quartzsite’s political problems: dis-incorporate the town.” HOW ARROGANT! Ron Jones Proud Quartzsite Resident .DM. TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY…. In my place of business I have the opportunity to hear a lot of stories about what goes on around town. When hearing these stories, there are times when I am inclined to form an opinion based on what I hear. The other day I heard a story about an altercation between a vendor and a resident of this town. The vendor was quite detailed in his version of what happened and there were a few people there who hopped on his band wagon and started a discussion about the event. Later in the day a customer came in. I started some small talk and we ended up talking about the energy in Quartzsite. She happened to witness the situation of which that vendor spoke and I was amazed to hear that the scenario was not at all like what was described earlier in the morning. For this reason, I ask that all residents, vendors and winter visitors be more careful about what opinions they form and the stories they continue to pass around town when they have only heard one side of the story. With all the negative energy that is generated around here, we must all be very careful to be objective. If not, one could easily further the negative relationships that so many of us are trying to mend. Michelle Lukkasson Main Street Eatery KEEP IN MIND The recall election is fast approaching and we’re truly concerned. The new candidates running for offi ce makes me wonder what their true motives are, could it be that it is a paid political position? The only thing I have heard from these people regarding the Town Manager, Police Department, other Council Members and the Town in general is NEGATIVE! NEGATIVE! NEGATIVE! These are non-property owners who could be making laws that govern all of us, does that scare you? It does me. And tell me what good positive impact have they had since coming to Quartzsite? I believe none of them have ever sat on a Town Board or Committee or volunteered their time to RV Day/Night SHADE REPAIR Remove/Restring/Reinstall Mobile Service • Affordable Pricing! Seems they may be cut from the same cloth as our current Mayor, non- involvement at its’ highest level. Correct me if I am wrong but I always thought that true love for your community “WAS INVOLVEMENT”. On the other hand look at the current council members, all but one owns property, two own businesses others have jobs, and two are retired. Some were Board Members, but all have given countless hours to a variety of organizations over their many years of residency, being involved long before becoming Council Members. We see their friendly faces at numerous activities throughout the Town, mingling with family and friends. Now are we always going to agree with their decision making? Probably not, but I know they research the options and do their level best to come up with decisions that will benefi t all. Remember folks, for the last several months they have endured insults, public bashing and threats of legal action, and still they hang in there. Do you suppose they do so because representing “ALL RESIDENTS” is their main objective in the positions P 29 they hold? Well they certainly have my vote. I guess what it boils down to is an intelligent vote cast is one that is researched to the fullest. Know not what this Town Government can do for you but rather what can you do for your Town Government.
