JULY 31-AUGUST 6, 2019 UCW 45 Best of Fayetteville Best Place To Buy Local Art Cape Fear Studios 148 Maxwell St. 910-433-2986 or www.capefearstudios.com Cape Fear Studios has the distinction of being the only visual arts cooperative in Fayetteville. It's home to a number of gifted local artists and has been around for 30 years. A nonprofit organiza- tion, Cape Fear Studios puts an emphasis on growing and exploring the arts. It offers op- portunities for the creation of art, the purchasing of art and the viewing of art. The studio's member artists invest in the organization by paying an annual fee while also volunteering their time to keep the studio in operation. In addition to the fees paid by member artists, Cape Fear Studios relies on various grants and money from donors. The building features huge skylights that let in natural light, and seven stu- dios for artists that are rented by members. There is also a gallery, a retail area and an open area that can be used either for classes or meetings. Works on dis- play at the studio may include pottery, sculpture, photography, painting, glass, wood, jewelry and a variety of other mediums, all of which are unique pieces created by the members. Visitors are welcome to come to the studio and watch the artists at their work. Purchasing the unique, local, handmade art here supports the creative mem- bers of this community. There are also contests and exhibits during the year that showcase local talent and bring national and international artists to the area. Classes for local artists are held through the studio, too. Best Framing Shop Lisa's Custom Framing 1226 Fort Bragg Rd. 910-484-3585 or www.lisascustomframing.com Lisa's Custom Fram- ing is a regular on the Best of Fayetteville winner's list. The tradi- tion started years ago when the business was originally founded by Lisa Lofthouse. Robin Kelly picked it up and carried it on when she took over the operation in 2008. Kelly retained the name but made a few changes to help add her personal touch to the successful brand. There's no questioning Kelly's commitment to support the Fayetteville com- munity through displays of the work of local artists in a wide selection of styles. Lisa's always features a large and interesting selection of original artwork in the front gallery of the business, along with prints of local art. On a quarterly basis, the business hosts An Evening of Art and Wine to showcase the work of a local artist. The thriving business of Lisa's remains customized picture framing, and it is the focus of both Kelly and her gifted staff. The team uses quality mats and accessories to create frames that highlight all manner of subjects. They are widely known for their creative designs, outstand- ing craftsmanship, superior customer service and competitive prices. The staff is eager and well-equipped to provide top-tier design advice to all of its customers. Each item is mounted in a frame using preservation techniques that assure the item will retain its beauty and be kept safe from the ravages of the environ- ment for years to come.
