JULY 31-AUGUST 6, 2019 UCW 27 Best of Fayetteville Best Restaurant Overall, Best Fine Dining, Best Italian Restaurant Luigi's Italian Chophouse & Bar 528 N. McPherson Church Rd. 910-864-1810 or www.luigisnc.com Peter Parrous immigrated from Greece and then discovered his passion for cooking while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. In the early 1950s, he opened a spaghetti house featuring his mother's treasured recipes in downtown Fayetteville. Operating for over 20 years by the Parrous, Kotsopoulos and Higgins families from its current location, Luigi's still uses those same recipes. But it has also expanded the menu to include fresh fish, hand-cut steaks and chops and gourmet pasta dishes. Around 2000, the restaurant began to focus on fine wines and was the first restaurant in Fayetteville to feature weekly wine tastings. Since then, the owners have built a nationally recognized wine selection with more than 1,500 wines from around the world, winning a prestigious Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine every year since 2003. Luigi's Thursday night wine tasting events include a selection of wines from its cellar and also seek to educate patrons' palates to the nuances of fine wines. Friday and Saturday nights feature live music in the lounge. Due in large part to its excellent waitstaff and upscale ambience, Luigi's is the place to go for a special dinner, a business lunch, a family get-together or even a large party. The restaurant can accommodate private parties from 15-100 people. In addition to outstanding cuisine and service, Luigi's regularly features an assortment of live music. For decades, perennial favorite Luigi's has been firmly established as a fine dining experience for locals and visitors alike. Scrub Oaks can also accommodate larger gatherings and business dinner meetings in its attractive private dining room. Popular menu items include soft-shell crab, Baja fish tacos, shrimp and scallop lollipops and Scrub Oaks' renowned grilled ribeye steak. The menu also features burgers any way you want them. An outstanding favorite from the dessert menu is the caramel cheesecake. Scrub Oaks' wrap-around bar is a cozy place to relax with your cocktail of choice, a selection from its wine list or a draft of the craft beer offered on tap. In addition to quaffing a convivial adult beverage, folks can enjoy live music on the weekends, trivia on Tuesday nights, or football and other seasonal sports on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
