JULY 31-AUGUST 6, 2019 UCW 31 Best of Fayetteville Best Wine Shop The Wine Café 108 Hay St. 910-779-2766 or www.thewinecafeus.com The Wine Café is a repeat winner in the Best Wine Shop category for good reason. Owner Angie Malave has created a unique experience for wine connoisseurs by merging a tasting room and a boutique-quality wine shop. Malave offers handpicked wines from all over the world along with craft beers. The wine room can be reserved for special events and offers handmade appetizers, free Wi-Fi and a projector for presentations. The staff is famously polite and always willing to help you make a great wine choice. Located on Hay Street in the historic district of downtown Fayetteville, The Wine Café is the perfect spot to stop and sample wines and cheeses while people-watching or unwinding from a stressful week. There's an impressive variety of events throughout the year that happen here, from live music most weekends to Argentina Night to Wine and Yoga. Military Mondays feature a discount for military members. Best Breakfast, Best Greek Cuisine Zorba's Gyro 2919 Raeford Rd. or 3114 N. Main St., Suite 106 910-484-1010 or 910-424-3332 or www.zorbasgyro.com Tommy Frangakis settled in Fayetteville in 1961, having emigrated to the United States from Greece three years earlier. Zorba's Gyro opened its doors in 1974, and the rest is history — family history, that is. Tommy's son John has continued alongside his father since 1996. It might surprise visitors that Zorba's has Fayetteville's Best Breakfast and Greek Cuisine, two very different categories. But locals are anything but shocked. Zorba's breakfast menu boasts everything from three-egg cheese omelets to country ham biscuits to blueberry buttermilk pancakes. Come back for lunch or dinner for Zorba's famous slow-roasted lamb or beef gyros, great with authentic tzatziki sauce, or try a hot sub. Customers are especially fond of the Wednesday special, Zorba's spaghetti. For dessert, Zorba's offers Marina's brownies, cheesecake and traditional Greek baklava — a pastry made of phyllo dough and crushed nuts soaked in honey. Best Business Lunch Huske Hardware House 405 Hay St. 910-437-9905 or www.huskehardware.com Based in the 116-year-old-historic Huske Hardware building built by Benjamin R. Huske on historic Hay Street, Huske Hardware House has been a downtown staple for more than 20 years. Huske's rustic and cozy interior covers two floors and wraps around its signature American-made, stainless steel, 15-barrel brewing system. It has outdoor seating, too. With three fermenters, it's able to produce 500 gallons of full-flavored beer a week. The menu is inventive and well-rounded. From rich pasta dishes and seafood to traditional bar fare and a kids menu, there's something delicious to accommodate everyone. Huske Hardware House offers a full range of catering and can accommodate as many as 55 people for special events, making it an ideal location for a business lunch. The second floor offers privacy and scenic views of Hay Street. Located near Fort Bragg and in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, it's the perfect location with the perfect menu for all of your professional luncheon needs. Best Food Truck R Burger 814 Larkspur Dr. 910-527-1467 or www.facebook.com/Rburgertruck R Burger, Fayetteville's premier high-quality mobile food vendor, has only been in service for four years. But it comes as no surprise that it's already the best food truck in town. With 15 years of experience between the two of them, owners Rob and Mary Russell knew what they were doing when they decided to start a business that uses fresh beef — ground daily — and original hamburger recipes that will make your mouth water. R Burger also makes it a point to source its fresh beef and buns locally. R Burger's menu includes offerings like the Southern Burger, made with homemade pimento cheese, grilled onion and mustard; the Carolina Burger, with chili slaw, onion and mustard; and the Jalapeño Colby Jack Burger, which is pretty self-explanatory. There are also specialty hot dogs, fresh-cut fries and brat patties. Want something more experimental? You can always build your own burger or hot dog. R Burger has served at places like Bright Light Brewing Company, Dirtbag Ales and Westwood Shopping Center, among other locations, so it's not hard to spot them. And don't worry about breaking the bank — without extra toppings, everything on the menu is $6 or less. "We always strive to achieve R motto of 'Love people. Serve them tasty food,' the owners said. We make R friends happy! We R always grateful for R loyal following." w i n e & d i n e
