It's common to hear ways to edit a photo in photoshop or other photo manipulation programs, but in this course, you will learn how to add those artistic details and effects by hand as you're taking the photo. Be- come more in-tune and connected with your process while learning new ways to bring your artistry to life through your photos in real time. Bring yourself, your DSLR camera (with manual capabilities), and your imagination in this fun and creative course. Participants need to have a DSLR cam- era with manual capabilities. Sequoyah COST: $69 OLLI Member $84 Non-OLLI Member FOLLOW THE MONEY: FINANCING THE NOVEMBER 2020 CAMPAIGNS DESCRIPTION: Money walks, money talks. Money makes the world go round. In this nonpartisan, non-ideological class, participants will gain a basic framework for evaluating campaign fi nance history and issues using the November 2020 elections as a touchstone. Just how much money found its way into the November 2020 elections? Where did campaign money come from and where did it go? Did cam- paign contributions make a diff erence in the results? Through fi ve one hour virtual sessions, we will investigate recent elec- tion spending, focusing on the presiden- tial campaigns and several state and local campaigns as well. We will see how 2020 election spending compared to past cam- paigns, how campaign fi nance laws have altered the importance of money in elec- tions, look at campaign fi nance in other countries and make time for plenty of class discussion as well. So bring your detective skills as we work to ferret out the facts of this topical - and expensive - subject! LIFE AND INTELLIGENCE IN THE UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION: Until recently we only assumed the existence of other plan- etary systems. Now we know that every star has planets, many of them in the "habitable zone" where water can be liquid. We will explore our planets and other planetary systems for conditions that may sustain life, even outside the habitable zone. If life is common in the universe, what about intelligent life? C of O is a tuition-free college, for those without funds, where every full-time student works at a campus job to help defray ex- penses. The Wall Street Journal describes C of O as "one of the most unusual little liberal arts colleges in the country." At the beautiful Keeter Center, enjoy a visual campus tour and historical pre- sentation by students. A tour of the in- spirational military exhibit within the center will then be a patriotic enhance- ment, after which, a DUTCH TREAT lunch or dessert may be a welcome interlude. A class finale will be a perusal of the gift shop. There one will find items made by students – food delicacies and a variety of unique handmade items. Don't miss the inspirational story of a man's dream to 'education for all' and how that dream blossomed and came to fruition. Knowing how to navigate a dining setting will build confidence and prepare you for social and professional engagements in a relaxed manner. Monica Herrera, a cer- tified etiquette instructor, will lead the participants in two classes, venturing to a local restaurant for the final session where you will demonstrate what you learned with a meal. Virtual class sessions will be 1.5 hours long. The visit to the restaurant ( TBD) will be from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Thursday. Cost of meal is on your own. INSTRUCTOR: Monica Herrera DAY/DATE: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 5/4/21 - 5/6/21 (3) TIME: 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM FORMAT: Virtual for class / IP for Restaurant LOCATION: Via Zoom COST: $45 OLLI Member $60 Non-OLLI Member HIGHBALL- THE RAILROADS OF BRANSON, MISSOURI DESCRIPTION: Discover the rich his- tory of Branson, Missouri and the impact of the coming of the railroad in the early 1900s. Known as the "White River Line," this scenic stretch of railroad ran from Carthage, Missouri through Branson and along the White river to near Newport, Arkansas. Course participants will enjoy a 3 hour lecture on the history of the line concluded by a 40-mile round trip excur- sion through Ozark foothills and tunnels aboard the Branson Scenic Railroad. As participants cross bridges and trestles, they will experience the luxury of rail trav- el from yesteryear on a restored historic streamlined passenger train. The first session will be in the classroom while the second will consist of the train ride. Price of ticket ($29) is included with class fee. 2nd date 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
