Birch Ave., Fayetteville COST: $29 OLLI Members Only HIKES NEAR YOU: LINCOLN LAKE DESCRIPTION: Come enjoy fresh air, adventure and fun on this day hike at Lincoln Lake in west Washington Coun- ty. Once the water supply for the city of Lincoln, it is 400 acres of pristine, water recreation, rock climbing, mountain bik- ing, hiking, fishing and stunning photo- graphic opportunities. This hike will go the full length of Lincoln Lake Loop, a 4.4 mile trail that circles the lake and visits the dam, rock outcroppings, and overlooks. Activity Level 5. Meeting location and directions will be sent to participants prior to the date of the hike INSTRUCTOR: Josh Raney DAY/DATE: Thursday, 3/25/21 (1) TIME: 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM FORMAT: In person only LOCATION: Lincoln, AR COST: $25 OLLI Member $40 Non-OLLI Member ARKANSAS'S MOST ENDANGERED HISTORIC PLACES DESCRIPTION: Preserve Arkansas's an- nual list of Most Endangered Places began in 1999 to raise awareness of the impor- tance of Arkansas's historic properties and the dangers they face through neglect, encroaching development, and loss of integrity. The list is updated each year to generate discussion and support for sav- ing the state's endangered historic places. Previous listings include the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess, Rohwer Japa- nese American Relocation Center in De- sha County, William Woodruff House in Little Rock, and the Thompson Building in Hot Springs. Rachel Patton, who has more than ten years of experience in historic preservation in Arkansas, will discuss the 2020-2021 Most Endangered Places list, as well as success stories and signifi cant properties that remain endangered. He will cover all the ingredients that are required for a specifi c beer and he will go through the time line that is required in great beer brewing. Also to be covered is where and how the ingredients for beer brewing are secured. The following list is an example of the large number of spe- cialty beers that he produces and has for sale: Golden Ale, Pale Ales, IPA's, Stouts, Porters, Kolsch. The class will include one beer of your choice following the session. In addition, for those who wish to stay, a limited menu and beer for purchase will be available. It was deadly to some and just downright cruel to others. It in- terrupted daily life, holidays, rites of pas- sage, careers, and for the youngest among us, months of social distancing had the power to not only change their lives, but the future they will inhabit. Judith Tavano, long time generations scholar will discuss her recent research into the eff ects of so- cial distancing on young children, our yet- to-be-named youngest generation. It is humankind's most fundamental scientifi c theory. What is it about? How does it work? What are its main ideas? What is the evidence for it? Is it as paradoxical as it fi rst appears to be? This course will be based on the in- structor's non-technical book Tales of the Quantum published by the Oxford Univer- sity Press, available in hard cover or Kindle. The course will cover such topics as: what is a "quantum," perfect randomness, quan- tum states, being in two places at once, entanglement, and non-local action-at-a- distance. Although the course is directed at non-scientists, scientists are welcome. No scientifi c or mathematical background is needed, only curiosity. The course will cover Chapters 1 through 9 of the book, which can be purchased in hard cover for $22-29, or on Kindle for $10. Enrollees should buy the book and bring it to each session, reading the appropriate chapters in advance of each class session. Join us for an easy hike along the beautiful trails of the Ozark Natural Science Center while learning about Ozark wildfl owers from an experienced teacher naturalist. An added bonus of this class is that you will have wonderful opportunities for photographing nature in its purest form. This class also off ers a brief lecture on Bear Hollow and what you will be seeing as you experience going into the springtime for- est of our Ozark Mountains.
