Welcome from the Director Dear OLLI Members and Friends, I hope you had a wonderful and safe holiday season. It is no secret that 2020 was a very challenging year, but it also presented new opportunities, such as adapting classes to be off ered virtually. Since the pandemic, our focus has continued to be on off ering high quality classes and activities, in a safe and comfortable environment, for all to enjoy. Last fall, we successfully did this with strict safety guidelines for in person activities and an improved platform for attending classes virtually from the safety of your home. is spring season will be no diff erent. We will continue to prioritize the safety and well- being of all, and build on what we have learned while navigating these challenging times. Our curriculum committee and instructors have worked very hard to develop a schedule of classes that you will certainly fi nd intriguing and exciting. Peruse this catalog and you will fi nd a wide array of topics, to be off ered in a variety of formats. Whether you attend classes in person or virtually via Zoom, I am sure you will fi nd your experience to be valuable and rewarding. No matter how you choose to participate, I am certain you will fi nd OLLI to be engaging, informative and fun. When I talk to people about OLLI at the University of Arkansas, there are three things I always like to mention: lifelong learning, lifelong friendships and endless opportunities. Sincerely, Josh Raney, Director Josh Raney Director, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University of Arkansas All About OLLI Welcome to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Arkansas! OLLI at the University of Arkansas was established in 2007. It is one of 123 Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes across the United States, and is the only OLLI in the state of Arkansas. These lifelong learning programs are partially funded through the Bernard Osher Foundation and each is dedicated to providing non- credit courses and continuing education opportunities to adults. OLLI has NO academic prerequisites or age restrictions and is designed for adults who want to continue learning in their retirement years. Our Mission and Values The mission of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arkansas (U of A) is to provide a community of adults with a lifelong learning venue that promotes intellectual and cultural growth through exploration and discussion via diverse, high quality and aff ordable educational programs. High Quality Programs and Engaging Courses The OLLI curriculum committee annually develops hundreds of stimulating courses in a variety of fascinating topic areas. Programs range from one time lectures, tours, workshops and day hikes to eight-week seminars or study groups. Courses are engaging, innovative, lively, hands on, informative and are off ered in a variety of settings. There are no prerequisites required, no tests or exams and no age restrictions. OLLI courses provide the ideal environment for learning. Exceptional Instructors Along with university professors and other educators, those who facilitate OLLI courses include experienced professionals, passionate hobbyists, researchers and distinguished scholars. OLLI instructors are there both to educate and to engage, and they love sharing their knowledge, expertise and fascinating stories. Special Events and Programs In addition to regular courses, OLLI members enjoy the opportunity to engage in monthly social and cultural events, special programs, book clubs, special interest groups, and much more. These special programs provide an opportunity to take the discussion outside the classroom, to meet new people, and to engage in unique experiences only off ered through our institute.
