32 SEPTEMBER 20 - 26, 2017 Best of Fayetteville Best German Restaurant Max & Moritz Bakery and Restaurant 5945 Cliffdale Rd. (910) 826-8400 Max & Mortiz is a small, family-owned restaurant that's offered authentic German cuisine in Fayetteville for nine years. The recipes were handed down to owner Petra Volcy from her mother, who currently resides in Germany. These recipes offer diners options like the Jaegerschnitzel Plate: Two breaded and fried pork loins with mushroom gravy, German potato salad, romaine salad and German salad dressing. Or, patrons can venture out and try lesser-known fare like the Pork Rouladen Plate: One rouladen (bacon, onions, mustard and pickles cooked in a wrapping of thinly-sliced beef ) with spaetzli (soft egg noodles) and red cabbage. All the food is fresh and made from scratch. Volcy's daughter, Nadine Dobeneck, also bakes delicious German cakes and cookies from scratch for the restaurant's bakery. Max & Mortiz has a homey, welcoming atmosphere. The service is quick and friendly and the food is as authentic as it is mouth-watering. It has again won the award saying there's no better place in Fayetteville to get a taste of Germany. Best Indian Restaurant/Best Vegetarian Restaurant Bombay Bistro 5945 Cliffdale Rd. (910) 487-0020 Indian food is known for its bold flavors and incredible use of spices. There is no cuisine like it, and Bombay Bistro offers locals a chance to experience all kinds of dishes in their authentic forms. Patrons enjoy both familiar dishes and new — from channa masala (chick peas simmered in thick curry sauce) to malai kofta (dumplings made of potatoes, cashews and raisins deep fried and simmered in a creamy sauce). The menu is naturally vegetarian-friendly, featuring dishes that use coconut milk, mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, eggplant, spinach and chick peas. There is also a large selection of entrees featuring chicken, lamb, shrimp and fish. Drinks include classics like masala chai and rose milk. Desserts include gulab jamun (spongy milk spheres in sweet syrup), lapsi (cracked wheat cooked in butter and milk with sugar) and kulfi (mango or pistachio Indian ice cream). Best Italian Restaurant Luigi's 528 N. McPherson Church Rd. (910) 864-1810 or www.luigisnc.com Luigi's proudly bears the title of Fayetteville's oldest family-style and family-run Italian restaurant, and it's a perennial Best of Fayetteville winner. Peter Parrous, an immigrant of Greece, founded the restaurant in 1982 with a passion for cooking and a love for people. He passed his original recipes on to his children, Nick, Linda and Tony, who now run operations. Luigi's is a special destination because it's perfect for every occasion. The main dining rooms, patio dining and lounge area have a peaceful and elegant atmosphere that lend themselves equally well to small family gatherings, business meetings or large celebrations. The cuisine, of course, is the real star. The restaurant serves hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood entrees and many kinds of pasta, along with salads and soups. Complement your meal by selecting a drink from over 250 varieties of imported and domestic wines, plus a wide selection of beers and spirits. Thursday nights feature live music, entertainment and casual wine-tasting. WINE & DINE WINE & DINE
