SEPTEMBER 20 - 26, 2017 UCW 23 Best of Fayetteville Best Restaurant Overall/Best Ribs/Best Steaks Texas Roadhouse 4195 Sycamore Dairy Rd. (910) 826-1288 or www.texasroadhouse.com Last year, Texas Roadhouse took Best Steak, Best Ribs and Best Wait staff. This year, it rose to the top and took Best Restaurant Overall. What catapulted it beyond notice for its exceptionally delicious treatment of beef and pork and its friendly service? Though Texas Roadhouse is a national chain, what makes this restaurant so extraordinarily successful in Fayetteville is its management. First it was Jim Muse as the general manager and now, for a decade, it has been Fayetteville resident Mark Hymes. Both of these professional restaurant managers know and practice what most chain restaurants totally ignore. That is community involvement and community commitment. Texas Roadhouse is extremely involved in every aspect of the Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and Cumberland County community. They know the value and importance of giving back. In turn, the community gives back to them by supporting their business. Often when other chain restaurants are empty, Texas Roadhouse will have people willing to wait 45 minutes on the sidewalk to get in. You can be sure of one thing — when you patronize Texas Roadhouse, either Mark or one of his managers will be there to greet you. And they appreciate your business. So, yes, they have great ribs, awesome steaks, good prices and a margarita to die for, but these things, paired with community-involved management, is what makes Texas Roadhouse Fayetteville's Best Restaurant Overall. Best Northside Restaurant Scrub Oaks Contemporary American Pub 5780 Ramsey St., Suite 108 (910) 884-3072 or www.scruboaks.com Tim and Gwen Holtsclaw founded Scrub Oaks in March 2009. They bought property from a restaurant that was closing and whipped it into opening shape in about two months. From their humble beginnings, they had no idea they'd be voted Best Northside Restaurant in the city several years in a row. Scrub Oaks strikes the perfect balance you never knew you were missing — the relaxing, fun atmosphere of a trendy bar paired with the sophisticated vibe and high-quality cuisine of an upscale restaurant. Signature dish: Grilled fillet mignon with a black pepper pinot noir demi-glace. Dessert: a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting ice cream — is your mouth watering yet? Northside residents love Scrub Oaks for its contemporary American cuisine offered from a menu three times the size of its original iteration. And patrons will be coming from across town, too, now that the 295 loop is completed. Getting to the Northside from Raeford Road and the mall area is now a very short jaunt, so make it a point to visit Tim and Gwen at Scrub Oaks. Along with the food, enjoy the beer, boutique wines and specialty cocktails. Scrub Oaks knows and rejoices in a wide variety of delicious liqueurs that range from familiar favorites like amaretto, Kahlua or Limoncello to the more exotic Drambuie (honey, spices and herbs) and Goldschlager (cinnamon). The most potent of these yummy drinks, the peppermint-flavored Rumple Minze, is 100 proof. Wine dinners, outrageous wine walks, Trivia Tuesdays, Bourbon Bacon, Mother's Day brunch, March Madness parties and live music make Scrub Oaks a community gathering place. Come by. They are always cooking up some- thing new. WINE & DINE WINE & DINE
