SEPTEMBER 20 - 26, 2017 UCW 13 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM NIGHT LIFE MEDIA MEDIA Best Venue/Club for Live Music/Best Nightclub Over- all/Best Place for a Girls Night Out/Best Neighbor- hood Bar Paddy's Irish Pub/The Church at Paddy's 2606 Raeford Rd. (910) 568-5654 or www.paddysirishpub.com How can one place win so many categories? "We're an Irish pub. We don't do anything else," the website proclaims. And they do it well. If we had a steel-tipped dart competition category, they'd likely win that, too. They do music. The variety of performers alone wins this club the best club for live music. At Paddy's, you'll see local favorites like Lotus Sun, Ethan Hanson, Tyrek Hearon, Dez Humphry and Mitch Clark all onstage in one day. During a visit, you are just as likely to hear dueling pianos as you are to hear the soulful, bluesy music of Durham musician Emily Musolino. They do dancing. The Church at Paddy's is a clubbers dream. The DJ favors EDM, house music and future sound, but there's always variety. They do drinks. Draft brews include Guinness, Smithwicks, Harp, Shocktop, Black Dick Stout, Yuengling and Newcastle Brown Ale. They do fun. In a place where rules are just guidelines, and the motto is, "Don't be a wanker," it's no wonder Paddy's is where everyone wants to go to for a night out. Best Local Musician/Band Rivermist (910) 797-7140 or facebook.com/rivermistband While Rivermist is a relatively new band (formed in 2014), the musicians who make up this classic rock/variety band have performed in the community for more than 20 years. The musicians are Greg Adair, drums and backing vocals; Tony Harrison, bass; Allen Pier, lead and backing vocals/keyboard; Doug Bass, keyboard/lead and backing vocals; and Cliff Bender, lead guitar. Already booked well into 2018, the group members love giving their all onstage and know how to play to their audience. With covers like Styx's "Ren- egade," Phil Collins' "Easy Lover" and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk," the band has built a following along the Carolina coast, performing at Myrtle Beach and Caro- lina Beach among other places — including venues as far away as Virginia. "Our song list is very entertaining and fun to listeners," said one band member. "We work exceptionally hard at doing material that not every band can do, musically and vocally. … We strive for nothing short of excellence!" Maybe it's the way they engage a crowd. Or their choice of songs. Or their stage presence. Well, it's probably all of that and much more that makes this band Fayetteville's 2017 favorite. Best Biker Bar Mac's Speed Shop 482 N. McPherson Church Rd. (910) 354-2590 or www.macspeedshop.com Best Biker Bar? Hey, be- lieve us, Mac's Speed Shop is much, much more than that. First, Mac's is an award-win- ning barbecue restaurant. It had the honor of winning second place at the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest in Mem- phis, Tennessee, this year. That's No. 2 in the WORLD! At the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival in Charlotte this May, Mac's won 2nd Place Reserve Grand Champion — Whole Hog trophy. The rest of its menu is equally impressive, especially when you pair the pork, chicken or brisket barbecue with homemade southern comfort foods like mac 'n' cheese, baked beans, collard greens and cheddar grits. It has a selection of over 300 brews that will impress even the most finicky beer drinkers. It's also a great music venue with live performances by local bands every Thursday and Saturday. Mac's is also a friendly watering hole with a laid-back atmosphere that's fun and appropriate for the entire family. Everyone is welcome. No wonder the Fayetteville community chose it as the best biker bar. After all, beer, bikes and barbecue are just the beginning to what Mac's is all about. Come by and see for yourself. Best Sports Bar Bubba's 33 500 Westwood Shopping Center (910) 223-2601 www.bubbas33.com Bubba's 33 opened in Fayetteville in 2013. It was the first Bubba's in the coun- try, and it set the bar high for those that followed. Today there are nearly 20 loca- tions nationwide. Founded by UNC grad Kent Taylor — who is also the founder and CEO of Texas Roadhouse — Bubba's is a restaurant specially designed with fun, friends, families and sports team enthusiasts in mind. In making this a gathering place locals would want to come to, Taylor knew great-tasting food and community involvement would be key. So, at Bubba's 33, all the food is made from scratch and customer service is a top priority. If the sound of stone-baked, hand-tossed pizzas, fresh burgers with 33-percent bacon grind and ice-cold beer makes your mouth water, Taylor did it right. Bubba's 33 is all about sports. It's the favorite local watering hole of Fayette- ville's new hockey team, the Fayetteville Marksmen, and the restaurant boasts of having more TVs than tables. Needless to say, you have a great view from any seat in the house. There is also a family dining section as well as a garage bar perfect for kicking back and enjoying a drink with friends. Something for everyone — that's what Bubba's 33 is all about.
