SEPTEMBER 16-22, 2015 UCW 29 Best of Fayetteville Best Sunday Brunch Hilltop House 1240 Fort Bragg Road 910.484.6699 or www.hilltophousenc.com Dining at the Hilltop House is as much about the location as it is about delicious food. The house was built in 1910 by two local brothers, Augustus and Duncan Kelly. Its interior has been restored and remodeled many times, but has retained its original charm and character from 105 years ago. Here, diners are surrounded by original Gregorian architecture. A Tiffany bay window in the original dining room adds a natural elegance to the dining experience. Matching the classic beauty of the home is the food. The menus created by executive chef and owner Beth Shearin-Smith and executive chef Matthew Graham are an elegant rendition of classic Southern cuisine. Whether it be a business lunch or dinner honoring a special occasion, the Hilltop House is an excellent destination for any upscale event. However, Sundays are special and few Fayetteville dining establishments can match the food, elegance and value of the Hilltop House Sunday Brunch. It is marvelous! It features an impressive array of breakfast and lunch options from a full breakfast featuring Bananas Foster French toast to a cold seafood bar and prime rib carving station. Needless to say, there is also a vast selection of wines, salads and desserts to complement any éntree. The Hilltop House practically owns this category, winning "Best of the Best" year after year. Sunday Brunch hours are 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Come hungry and come to be impressed and amazed at this AAA 3 Star restaurant. Best Lunch/ Best Business Lunch/ Best Deli New Deli 2153 Valleygate Dr./ 225 Green St. 910.223.3082/ 910.482.5416 http://mynewdeli.com/ordereze/home.aspx Wow! For five years running, New Deli again is declared Fayetteville's "Best of the Best" by Up & Coming Weekly readers. Congratulations! New Deli owner Steve Brown says: "Thank you Fayetteville and Fort Bragg! We are honored to serve you." No doubt the feeling is mutual. New Deli is not exactly what it seems at first glance. Behind its small, crisply clean deli exterior is a huge restaurant with a gigantic menu. New Deli offers up dozens of sandwich options — both cold and grilled — daily. Other menu items include pizzas, vegetarian meals, salads and a wide range of homemade desserts including their signature sweet treat: granny smith apples smothered with chocolate or caramel and adorned with an assortment of crushed candy toppings. It's a delight that is almost magical. Delicious. The tart flavor of the apple perfectly complements the thick layers of sweet chocolate. They will even pre-slice the apples to facilitate the delicious experience. Visit them soon. A recently rolled out new menu has met with great success. At a glance, it looks like classic deli fare, but a closer look shows that their sandwiches are sophisticated, creative and above and beyond what a typical deli offers. Eat in or take out, their food is always delicious. You can make no wrong choices at New Deli. Visit the restaurant soon to experience the difference. Best Coffee House Rude Awakening 227 Hay St. 910.223.7833 or www.rudeawakening.net Since it was built in 1914, it seemed that this historic building was meant to be a café. It was first Johnson's Café, then for many years Brady's Soda Shop. In 1998, owners Bruce and Molly Arnold saw beautiful potential in a then- dilapidated old building and completely renovated it to the standards of the Historic Preservation Office. The storefront is totally original down to the leaded glass panel; but the inside is a relaxed and unpretentious modern coffee shop. They have all the classic brews: espresso, cappuccino, latte, Americano and mocha — all made from Larry's Coffee where all the beans are organic, fair trade and shade-grown, guaranteeing a flavorful and aromatic cup every time. This commitment to quality, organic, fair-trade and green coffee goes back years. It reflects a true commitment to providing the best cup of coffee possible for the patron and the world. Rude Awakenings also offers creative specialty cappuccinos like the Cherry Bomb, which includes amaretto, Irish cream, maraschino cherry and white chocolate. With the fall fast approaching, be sure to stop by for a Mexican Spice cocoa that'll wake up your taste buds. Add a shot of espresso for a little extra pick-me-up. Don't forget to grab a fresh-baked croissant, muffin or bagel for a quick breakfast. Rude Awakening also caters to the busy downtown lunch crowd with a brown bag lunch that features a sandwich on a French roll, a cookie and chips for on the go or on the courtyard patio in the back of the shop. For dessert, chocolates and cakes are guaranteed to be the highlight of the day. The selection changes regularly, keeping things interesting — and delicious. Stay and enjoy a treat in the courtyard patio. It is the perfect place to sip coffee and enjoy the company of friends. Best Health Food Store The Apple Crate 2711 Raeford Road/5430 Camden Road 910.426.7777/910.423.8800 or www.applecratenc.com Apple Crate Natural Market is Fayetteville's go-to spot for all your healthy lifestyle needs. A great selection and helpful staff is what makes this local destination a hometown favorite. With a focus on dairy/gluten free, raw, paleo and vegan foods, this privately owned grocery department boasts a variety of unique products to meet your specialty diet needs. Since 2013, it has upheld a commitment to not introduce any new grocery items containing GMOs and have raised the bar for its Health and Beauty department by only carrying the highest quality and safest products the industry has to offer. The wide selection of essential oils, body butters, moisturizing oils and beeswax makes it easy to create your own custom products as well. Whether you are looking for a basic multivitamin or a supplement to help with a specific concern, the knowledgeable staff can help point you in the right direction. Every visit to the Apple Crate is a wonderful shopping adventure. With two locations in Fayetteville and Hope Mills, it's easy to see why our readers love them and voted them "Best of the Best." Best Indian Restaurant Bombay Bistro 5945 Cliffdale Road 910.487.0020 or http://openmenu.com/ restaurant/a39e6790-63fc-11e1-80ac- 00163eeae34c There is really nothing quite like great authentic Indian food. At Bombay Bistro on Cliffdale Road, the ample buffet changes every day. The bistro is a vegan and gluten- free friendly restaurant and always uses separate fryers for vegetable and meat dishes. Bombay Bistro has a wide selection of classic Indian dishes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. The flavors are vast, bright and inviting — like the restaurant's décor and attentive staff. Much of the Indian population is vegetarian for religious reasons. This long history of vegetarianism has translated into the creation of dishes so delicious that it's easy to forget that there's no meat in them. Here, vegetarian requests are a way of life so these meals are not thrown together at the last minute; rather they are created with the same care and expertise as other protein dishes on the menu — and with portions that are always generous. So, whether you are an Indian cuisine novice or an expert in Indian culinary tradition, a dining experience at the Bombay Bistro is satisfying and memorable. It's all about the recipes, spices and preparation and no one does it better than the Bombay Bistro. Visit soon and find out why it is undoubtedly Fayetteville's finest Indian restaurant.
