16 SEPTEMBER 16-22, 2015 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM POLITICS POLITICS Biggest Local Scandal PWC vs. City It was really no surprise that the ongoing feud between the City of Fayetteville and the PWC would make the top of list when it came to the Biggest Local Scandal. The feud itself dominated not only the local headlines, but some state headlines as well. While we would like to say that fences have been mended and all is well, that would be far from the truth. With the N.C. Legistlature still working on legislation concerning the char- ter of PWC and with City Manager Ted Vorhees throwing darts anytime he can at the utility, it's easy to say that all is not well in Fayetteville. But we have faith that by listen- ing to local residents and actually doing sound business, the city and PWC can come to an amicable agreement. Now Mr. Voorhees, that's a different story. We are sure there will be more to come in that arena as well. Fayetteville residents will surely keep their eyes peeled and their ears to the ground as they follow the Biggest Local Scandal. Best Use of Local Tax Dollars Education "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intel- ligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." Martin Luther King, Jr. Truer words have never been spoken. An educated society is one that can think. And a thinking society is one that can solve problems. That's what is needed in today's complex world. It's needed not only in the realm of business, science and math, but also in the business of day to day life. Too often people react with- out thinking. Many of today's most pressing problems are caused because people simply do not think. Our schools are going to be the key to the success or failure of not only this county, but also this state, this nation and the world. People have to be able to have rationale discourse and without the ability to think, that is not possible. There is no better use for local tax dollars than to teach our children to become competent thinkers who cannot only support themselves, but can also com- municate ideas. http://www.hardinlawrm.com SAILING THROUGH SEAS OF ADVERSITY • Family Law • Resolving High Conict Matters and Fighting for Families • Pre/Post Nuptuial • Separation Agreements • Divorce • Child Custody/Child Support • Alimony • Equitable Distribution • Protective Orders • Domestic Violence Voted BEST DIVORCE ATTORNEY Victoria Hardin 1314 Raeford Rd.
