SEPTEMBER 16-22, 2015 UCW 7 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM What Does Downtown Need More Of Shopping There are a number of eclectic shops downtown, but most focus on antiques or niche products. Fayetteville residents would like to see a little more of a mix in the downtown business community. Add in some hip clothing stores, maybe some more lifestyle stores, and, of course, more res- taurants to the mix. Fayetteville residents love going downtown, they just wish for a little more diversity. Best Local Community Project Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity 310 Green St. 910.483.0952 or www.fayettevillenchabitat.org Unlocking the doors to homeownership is the key to economic success. Through Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity's homeownership program, more than 150 hardworking indi- viduals and families have achieved the American dream. Collectively, those families contributed more $150,000 in county, city, and other property taxes last year. Along the way, Habitat is revitalizing neighborhoods by bringing together hun- dreds of volunteers and supporters from churches and busi- nesses in our community. The Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity team knows the needs of our community and the transformative effect that safe, decent housing can have on a family. It also knows that just one decent home in a blighted neighborhood — while a good start — is not the only help the community needs. The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative is FAHFH's effort to transform neighborhoods using a holistic approach — joining residents, non profits, businesses, local govern- ments, and communities of faith to create and implement a shared vision of revitalization. Build with FAHFH this year by attending one of its signature events like the "Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too" cake auction in the spring, joining the newly formed Habitat Young Professionals program this Fall, or volunteer- ing either on a home construction site or at the Habitat ReStore at 3833 Bragg Boulevard. FAHFH puts the proceeds from selling donations to good use by building the homes and hope we all want to see in Cumberland County.
