6 SEPTEMBER 16-22, 2015 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM CITY LIFE CITY LIFE Best Thing to Show Off/Best Museum Airborne and Special Operations Museum 100 Bragg Blvd. 910.643.2766 or www.asomf.org For more than 80 years Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, Cumberland County and North Carolina have lived and worked in cooperation with one another. The Airborne & Special Operations Museum continues to stand as a symbol for those many years of teamwork, sacrifice and victory. The ASOM is the centerpiece and main attraction of Historic Downtown Fayetteville. Its beautiful architecture immediately gets your attention. Once you step inside, you are immersed in the history and valor that is the legacy of our airborne and special operations soldiers. With new exhibits opening periodically, visiting the museum never gets old. Not only does the museum showcase the history of the airborne and spe- cial operations, it also preserves it. You can see everything from one of the Black Hawks downed in Somalia to a flag made by prisoners of war for the officer who freed them. It serves to not only honor, but save the unique history of our fighting men and women. And, if you have family or friends coming to town, the ASOM should become a "must see" item on your To Do List. We promise you they will leave amazed and impressed. One unique aspect of the ASOM is its volun- teers, many of whom have military backgrounds and have actually played an active role in the history you are exploring. According to our readers, the ASOM truly is The Best Museum and The Best Thing to Show Off to visitors and guests who visit the Fayetteville community. Best Thing to Hide From Out-of-Town Visitors Murchison Road Finally, Bragg Boulevard has been bumped from its place of dishonor in our annual poll. Taking its place is Murchison Road, which is really a lot like Bragg Boulevard. It is filled with small businesses that have been allowed to develop in a willy-nilly fashion. There are a lot of rundown homes and a lot of crime. There is hope that as Rowan Street is straight- ened and development from downtown moves in that direction that the strip of shame can be renovated ... but until then, keep your out of town visitors far away. .
