Fantasy Lake's employees are well trained, knowledgeable and courte- ous, making the facility safe, fun, clean and enjoyable for the entire family. Reservations and discounts are available for military events, family reunions, birthday parties and corporate outings. Business owner Marjorie Turner hopes that next year, Fantasy Lake will make Up & Coming Weekly's "Best of " again, but not as the Best Little Known Attraction. We agree! Coolest Venue Downtown Cameo 225 Hay St. 910.486.6633 or www.cameoarthouse.com When you think downtown hip, you have to think about The Cameo. The Cameo has a storied history in motion pictures. In its first iteration, the building served as the New Dixie, which was operated by motion picture veteran S.A. Lambert. Lambert soon moved out of the building to open a bigger Dixie, but in 1998, Chris and Nasim Kuenzel and Eric Lindstrom acquired the building with the idea of renovating the building and showing art films. What they did is mind blowing. The new theater had 125 velvet covered cast iron opera style chairs, In 2003, they added a second screen, the Loge, which contains 38 stadium style seats in an intimate screening room on the 2nd floor of the CAMEO building. Each year, the theater screen hundreds of art, inde- pendent, foreign and classic films, as well as hosting numerous fundraisers. It is no surprise that the Cameo has reclaimed its place as the Coolest Downtown Venue.
