CUMBERLAND First Responders Train For Chemical Disaster Family History Day at the Library on Sept. 19 First responders use a re hose to decontaminate a volunteer re ghter during a full-scale hazardous materials training exercise held by Cumberland and Bladen counties Aug. 29 at the Chemours Fayetteville Works plant located on the county line at N.C. Highway 87. Other participants included Cumberland County Department of Social Services, Public Health Department and Sheri 's O ce; American Red Cross; Cape Fear Valley EMS; Bladen County EMS; Tar Heel Rescue; and Gray's Creek, Cotton, Pearce's Mill and Tobermory re departments. Cumberland County Cooperative Extension's Better Living Series will feature two educational workshops during September. The Dos and Don'ts for Fall Landscaping will be offered Sept. 22 from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. The class will focus on the importance of pruning, feeding, planting and maintaining landscapes and turf in preparation for cold temperatures. Fresh and Healthy Meals for Families on the Go will be offered Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. Learn techniques for preparing quick and healthy meals for families with busy schedules. Both workshops will be held at the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension Center, 301 East Mountain Dr., Fayetteville. Cooperative Extension's Better Living Series One-Stop Early Voting Begins Sept. 24 co.cumberland.nc.us Headquarters Library will host a Family History Day on Sept. 19. Programs start at 10 a.m. and topics include the unique collections at the State Library in Raleigh, African-American Genealogy, researching military ancestors and DNA testing. Cumberland County residents who are qualifi ed to vote and are registered to vote in the county can participate in One-Stop Early Voting for the Oct. 6 primary beginning Sept. 24. One-Stop Early Voting hours are Sept. 24 – 25, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sept. 28 – Oct. 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All One-Stop voting will be held at the Board of Elections offi ce at 227 Fountainhead Lane in the E. Newton Smith Center. Same-day voter registration and voting will be allowed. State law requires an individual to sign and complete a voter registration form and provide proof of residence by presenting a North Carolina driver's license; photo ID from a government agency; current utility bill; bank statement; government check; paycheck or other government document.
