November 21, 2012 Quartzsite, Arizona - Monday, Nov. 19th the La Paz County Supervisors approved the canvas of the votes from the Nov. 6th election. A total of 4,998 ballots were cast out of 9,757 regis- tered voters for 51.22% turnout. 810 provisional and 'late early' bal- lots along with write-in race for County Attorney kept La Paz County Elections offi cials busy until Wed. No- vember 14th. There were 1,713 valid write-in bal- lots for County Attorney and in the end, Tony Rogers was elected La Paz County Attorney with 548 votes (32%). Other candidates: Dan Field received 449 votes (26.2%), Steve Lundell received 374 votes (21.8%), Glenn Buckelew received 328 votes (19.1 %) and Martin Brannan received 14 votes (0.8 percent). In another write-in campaign, the race for Constable for the Quartzsite Justice Court (JP 4) has ended in a tie between Starr Bearcat and Bill Moore, Both candidates received 62 votes www.DesertMessenger.com Final Election Results La Paz County each, so really "every vote counts." La Paz County Elections Director Donna Hale said there will be a re- count, but she wasn't sure how state law applied as the law was geared to- ward optical scanning ballots and not hand-counts like write-in campaigns. Once the vote is canvassed and of- fi cial, Hale said the county would be required to seek a court order for a re- count. If the recount also ends in a tie, the winner will be drawn by lot. The fi nal totals for elected La Paz County Supervisors are: District 1 Supervisor D.L. Wilson (R) 716 (38.64%) District 2 Supervisor King E. Clapperton (R) 1,399 (61.9 %) District 3 Supervisor Holly Irwin (R) 823 (62.73%) CORRECTION NOTICE: In WANTED ad (right) published in Nov. 7th' issue of Desert Messenger, the phone number was wrong.
