This is a group of community members raising aware- ness about the abuse of drugs and alcohol in the youth and adults in our community. The mission of the QSAPC is to prevent the misuse and abuse of drugs and alcohol in the Quartzsite community. The QSAPC now has our youth sector running strong, with a group of motivated young men and women, they are called Quartzsite Youth Coalition (QYC). The QYC is a group of teens from this area ages 13-18. QYC has come up with many youth led projects for the community. QYC hosted their second movie night on October 6th, and showed The Aveng- ers. The turnout was better than the fi rst movie night. They had over 40 people attend. With the money that QYC earned with these movie nights, they decided to go to fear farm, and they had a blast. The youth group Also had their fi rst Turkey dinner Raffl e, the sales money will be going towards the Winter Formal that QYC is planning. This is a very busy time of year for QYC and QSAPC, after Thanksgiv- ing we will be starting to plan for the Christmas Light Parade on Dec. 8th.The QYC meets every Friday at 2:30 in the afterschool building and anyone ages 13-18 who is interested is welcome to join us. QSAPC also has a "Dump the Drugs" site. Did you know there is place in Quartzsite to dispose of your expired or unused medications? The QSAPC has a "Dump the Drugs" location at our local Quartzsite Police Depart- ment, located at 305 N. Plymouth RD. This is a place where anyone can dispose of those potentially danger- ous, unused and expired medications. We urge everyone to please use this site so the medications are not ac- cidently taken or end up in the hands of children. Anyone interested in being part of the Quartzsite Substance Abuse Pre- vention Coalition, is welcome to come to our meetings that are held the third Thursdays of each month at 10a.m. in the afterschool building that's located just north of Town Hall. Featured workshops include Acrylic Painting, Jewelry Making, and Native American Beadwork. During the one-day workshops participants will have the opportunity to hone al- ready present skills, or be introduced to new forms of art and self-expression. Jewelry Making- Participants will Enrichment classes AWC Personal learn the basics of creating earrings, bracelets and necklaces for men, chil- dren, and women. At the conclusion of the workshop students will have gained a new appreciation for the art of jewelry making and take home their own creations. Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 9am-3pm. $29 Native American Beading- Emphasis will be placed on two different meth- ods of Native American Beadwork: Loom Work and Lazy Stitch. Partici- pants will be introduced to using a loom for beading as well as to design and create Native American inspired barrettes. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 9am-3pm. $29 Acrylic Painting- Participants will be introduced to different components of acrylic painting, should leave the class with a completed painting, and have gained a better understanding of painting techniques and the use of acrylic paints.
