November 21, 2012 By Joanne Winer The annual Silent Auction spon- sored by Operation Hero Comfort will be held on Saturday, December 1 at Town Hall on Plymouth Road in Quartzsite. The monies raised from the auction will be used for postage to send packages to their adopted troop units (7) and to buy things that might be needed for the boxes. Businesses and vendors from town and other areas have opened their hearts each year for this event, and have again donated some great items this year for the auction. It is amazing and wonderful to know that so many people support the troops and Opera- tion Hero Comfort's efforts to help in this way by sending each unit 4 pack- ages each month (more at Christmas and other special times). The tables will be set up in the ro- tunda at Town Hall, and bid sheets will be set by each item to be auctioned off. The person with the highest bid at the end of the auction will get to buy www.DesertMessenger.com Silent Auction troop benefit Dec. 1st the item. There will also be door prizes throughout the event, and a table will be set up for anyone who can take the time to sign some Christmas cards that will be sent in the next packages going out before Christmas. The units will also get some small Christmas trees and decorations in the next shipment, so they can dress up their quarters and feel a little more like Christmas!! A donation box will be available for anyone to bring items for the packages that will be sent out. Items like canned goods (no pork), crackers, dried fruit, gum, candy, jerky, microwave dishes, peanut butter and any non-perish- able items are always needed, as well as toiletries, books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and movies. White socks get requested too. Come on out to the Town Hall on Saturday, Dec. 1 and help support the troops!!
