November 21, 2012 Salome High updates Salome's Busy, Busy Month At Salome high school we have a wonderful month full of activities, and entertainment. We had forty-five students attend the Frog Challenge trip to the State Fair. Frog Challenge is a day dedicated to the 9th-12th grade students that have a 3.0 or higher GPA or perfect attendance. These students were able to learn about bodies and to enjoy the Arizona State Fair. The Frog Challenge hap- pens near the end of each quarter. On November 8th, the Salome high school band went to Bouse to play for the Veteran's Day Program at Bouse Elementary School. It went very well. They played a number of patriotic songs. We all showed our gratitude for everything the Veterans have done for us and for protecting our free- dom. We had a Veteran's dinner on November 11th at the Salome VFW. A lot of people attended the dinner and many SHS students helped out. The sports banquet, on November 14th, recognized the many players that participated and played their hearts out in volleyball and football. Senior Center seeks volunteers Quartzsite Senior Center is seeking volunteers to help out in a variety of ways. "Please help us so we can con- tinue lunches and Bingo for our com- munity," said Rita Wilson, Activities Director. Volunteers are needed for: Cooks, Bingo Deli Helpers, Bingo Helpers, Dishwashers. The Quartzsite Senior Center is located at 40 Moon Mountain Ave., Quartzsite. The Center is open Mon- www.DesertMessenger.com There were eight plaques that were given to eight boys on the football team and there were four plaques given to four exceptional volleyball players. All players that participated in the fall sports were given participa- tion awards for doing their best. Arizona Western College visited the senior class on November 14th to inform them about their college. The basketball teams have been practic- ing hard and had a scrimmage against Antelope high school at Antelope (near Yuma) on November 15th. The letterman's basketball tournament was on November 16th and 17th. Girls: 2:30, J.V Boys: 4:00, Varsity Girls: 5:30 and Varsity Boys: 7:00 day through Friday from 9am - 3pm. The Center Serves LUNCH Monday -Friday at Noon for a $3 Donation. You are invited to come and join the fun at the center, including Cards, Games, Books, Puzzles. Other activities include: Tuesday, Quilters 8am-3pm Wednesday, Rock Painting 9-11am Wednesday Bingo at 6pm Every 3rd Thursday Craft Show 9-2 Friday Dances will begin December 14th, 7-10pm. Catholic Church Bake/Yard Sale Queen of Peace Catholic Church will hold their annual Bake Sale/ Yard Sale the weekend of Nov. 30th/Dec. 1st.
