November 21, 2012 Home baked rules La Paz County, AZ- Under the Home Baked and Confectionery Goods law in Arizona, home bakers can make and sell many foods right out of their own kitchen. In 2011, the Arizona State Legislature changed the law, A.R.S. 36-136 to allow residents to produce non-potentially hazardous baked and confectionery products in their homes and to offer them for commercial sale within the state. "The word non-potentially hazardous can be a little confusing," said Public Information Offi cer Katie Turnbow. "So the La Paz County Health Depart- ment has published some extra clari- fi cation on their website www.lpchd. com." According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, cupcakes, cookies, and candies are all acceptable foods to bake and sell under the Home Baked and Confectionery Goods law as long as they don't have cream frosting, fi ll- ings or custards. Pies are allowed as long as they are fruit fi lled and have no pudding or meringue ingredients. Baked or confectionery goods cannot have any potentially hazardous foods. What is Relexology? By Kelly Bliss Refl exology is a type of therapy that involves the massaging of the feet to treat and heal an individual's entire body. Refl exologists use pressure points on the feet, similar to acu- puncture points, to detect blockages of energy in the body. They aim to correct the blockages by massaging the feet and applying pressure to specifi c points on the feet. As a result, the pressure applied is believed to ef- fect internal organs. It is said to be a gentle type of therapy, used to restore the body's natural balance, as well as to help maintain its equilibrium. Today, Refl exology is used as a therapeutic treatment for a full range of conditions including, Poor Circula- tion, Diabetes, Neuropathy, Rheu- matoid Arthritis, Migraines, Sleep Disorders, Arthritis, Depression and Anxiety. Refl exology can act as an effec- tive tool in relaxing the body and the www.DesertMessenger.com An example of a potentially hazardous food is a cake with butter cream or cheese cream frosting. There are some additional steps home bakers need to take before selling their home baked or confectionery good commercially. Home bakers must: • Obtain a food handler card from the county health department. • and Confectionery Goods Program as required by ARS 36-136(H)(4)(g) to be authorized to produce products for commercial purposes. • Register for the Home Baked for sale with the address and contact information of the individual regis- tered with the program; list of ingre- dients in the food; a statement that it was prepared in a private home. Label all foods when offered "The rules surrounding the Home Baked and Confectionery Goods Pro- gram are designed to help reduce cross contamination and bacteria breeding. It comes down to food safety for the baker and the consumer." Katie Turn- bow explained. People from all ages benefi t from Refl exology treatment. While some may choose to enjoy the therapy on an occasional basis, many choose to receive such treatments regularly. Many individuals who seek regular treatments believe doing so helps them to maintain their health and well-being. Many medical doctors and other health care professionals also recognize it as an effective therapeu- tic treatment. Some recommend it to their patients as a supplement to medical care.
