Stop in and see us! Don and Mary Ward SPECIAL!! Mild, Medium & Hot Habanero Sticks Contributed by: Violet Kiss Whew, Saturday, February 28th fl ew by like a world wind (and it WAS one heck of a windy day). But did it stop us from having a fun-fi lled day? No, it didn't. On Friday, the evening before, we had a "Thank You" party for both the cooks locally and others coming in for the Chili Cook-off as well as all of the wonderful volunteers helping us at the 2 events. By then everyone heard of the howling winds coming in Saturday with wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. When the party ended, we decided to 'punt' as they say. We brought in the big tent we had outside, into Kym Scott's Rock Motel, and planned all of the changes for the next day. Our decision was to bring all of the cooks in as well as everything else. What became clear was the fact that for some the weather changed their plans to not come into Quartzsite the next day. Yet, the "Chili Shoot Out at Tyson Wells" was still a terrifi c success. Of course it would have made more if more people realized we moved everything indoors including the ad- ditional cooks. As we looked around though, our 8 cooks made at least 5 gallons each and there were plenty of fi lled bellies (including ours). We did well for the Food Bank, our high school scholarship and other organizations as such we help throughout the year and that's what counts. Then, the Legends of Country Music followed at the QIA Building. What a show! Professional, entertaining, tons of songs…this was what a real tribute to Country Hall of Fame Stars was like. Again, we assumed that the windy weather held back people from buy- ing tickets at the door, but we almost sold out with pre-sales anyway. As we bring this band back, you can be sure with all of the talking about them amongst our local friends and snow- birds it will be sold out early. So now it's time for "Thank Yous" starting fi rst with our wonderful guests who came out to help our causes and have fun. Next and inclusive of both events, we thank: APS (Gold Spon- sor), CRIT (Silver Sponsor), Kym Scott (Quartzsite's non-profi t "angel"), the tireless Food Bank volunteers, the HAM Operators, 2 selfl ess visiting Rotarians (Bryan & Pauline Bradley), Town of Quartzsite, Quartzsite Police Department, Blythe Business Cham- ber, Parker Area Business Chamber, Quartzsite Business Chamber of Com- merce, CASI, all the cooks who partici- pated, Hardies Beads & Jewelry, Main Trading Post, Skinner Farms, Bella's Stone Pendants, NAPA, O'Reilly's, Nolan & Carol Barney (pottery & cacti-terrarium trophies), Cactusranch Flowers, Desert Messenger, the band Rhythm and Romance and the QIA for helping with selling tickets and letting us "lease" their building. A Rotarian thank you goes to Steve Schue and Skylor Miller for helping at the events, before and after. Personally, I have to thank my husband, Ron Jones, for his endless and literally around-the-clock help in designing/printing/laminat- ing all the posters, banners and fl yers along with all of the other hard work during, up to, and after the two events. I am sure I may have missed a few other names, and I apologize. Re- member, we are so thankful for all who helped us in these events. We could not have done it without any of you. Sincerely, "Thank You" all! Rotary doings...
