Where has the season gone? Many of our friends have left already, and we haven't had time to see the ones who are still around. The Big Tent and all the shows came and went in a blur of activity that seems almost surreal in our memories. Some days it feels like it was just yesterday, and sometimes it seems like eons ago. Events that I think happened last week actually occurred a month ago or longer, and By Jenn Jedidiah Free for RocksInMyHead™ Love on the Rocks, or the Mother Lode of Love some things that happened months ago seem like they just took place yesterday. Sometimes it seems like we just opened. Other days it feels like it's been years since we've had a day off. And so it's that time of year again. The fl owers are blooming, the sun is beating down on us reminding us that it will be hot again shortly, and the days when there is a breeze to ease the heat are relished. The long lines at the grocery store, gas station, and post offi ce are gone. Our town is slowly returning to its summertime "sleepy desert town" atmosphere. Even the desert is becoming tranquil again, its plants, animals, and rocks recovering in gentle solitude from all the "lov- ing" they received within the past fi ve months. Our secret treasures of petro- glyphs, stone cabins, and ghost towns will once again be left alone to stand in peace and quiet, hidden from the mod- ern world rushing by on Interstate 10. And it's time to refl ect on another sea- son here in Quartzsite. It's been great, what we can remember of it anyway, and we are full of gratitude for another successful season. We've had a great year. We didn't throw any rocks at anyone this year, though we got close, and any year where we don't have to throw rocks at someone is a great year. Especially at a rock shop where there is an abundance of ammunition. And we appreciate that no one threw rocks at us, though I am sure there were times when some of you wanted to. As al- ways, we learned a lot, grew a lot, and laughed a lot. Thanks for entertaining us with your stories and adventures. Laughing with you makes the days fun. We got to share some awesome experi- ences with you, and share in some of your adventures. Admittedly, I get a little jealous that you folks get to enjoy all the amazing treasures here while we work hard to be here for you so you can. So this is the time of year when we get to spend some well deserved time enjoying some of the desert's treasures for ourselves. And it's that time of the year when we say goodbye to all our customers and friends for another season, and we hope that we see you again next year. Thank you for sharing with us your gorgeous jewelry pieces and cabs, and bringing in some amazing rocks and minerals. You really are talented folks with so much excitement and love for rocks. It is refreshing and encourag- ing, and gives us a reason to open up every day for you. And it's also the time of the year for us to say thank you. So…thank you for another successful season here in Quartzsite. Thank you for your busi- ness. Thank you for choosing us and allowing us to serve you. Thank you for being a part of our life. We can't do it without you. Thank you for trusting us with your equipment and tools to sell for you. Thank you for believing in us, when sometimes we didn't believe in ourselves. Thanks for reading our column and telling your friends about us. Thank you for being patient when orders were taking a long time, and for being understanding when your order was the one that got lost in the shuffl e. Thank you for still shopping here and putting up with us, even when we were overwhelmed, tired, in a less than optimum mood, and, well, sometimes even cranky. That's the problem with being open 7 days a week for almost 6 months straight- folks get to see the good, the bad, and, yes, sometimes the ugly. Thanks for loving us anyway, despite it all. We appreciate you. Lots. Have a great summer, and we'll see you next year. When you're ready to head out of town, please stop in before you go. We can still order stuff for you to take with you. You can still grab a rock or two for friends back home, or get some books or maps to fi nd some cool stuff at home or on your travels. You can even just come say goodbye. And please stay in touch over the summer on Facebook. We do miss you over the summer and we want to know all about your adventures. This year we had lots of irons in the fi re, as they say, devel- oping some new products and other exciting things that we will roll out next year. And we've built more online ven- ues, including a bookstore, to serve you better over the summer months. You can order over the phone and by email, too, if you need something, or at www. RocksInMyHead.com. And we are still open in Quartzsite at A37 in Rice Ranch until around the end of April, so if you are one of the people who wants to throw rocks at us, you still have a bit of time left to get in a good shot. Happy Summer!
