Seems folks are always seeking some- thing; happiness, peace, prosperity, etc. But really, happiness is so simple...think of the newborn child's fi rst eye-to-eye contact with the new mother. That's being totally present, in the moment. Just thinking about those moments can help us when we're down in the dumps. When we get out of harmony with our- selves, all heck breaks loose. In the last edition I quoted Muham- mad Ali because I liked the saying, "He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life." I never thought anyone would say, "Oh, I see you quoted a Muslim." I just wanted to shout, "hey, it's about the message, not the messenger!" But then, I realized some get stuck on who brings the message. It's funny how quickly one can get "out of sorts" so fast, just because someone says something or does something we disagree with. So I immediately returned to breath- By Shanana "Rain" Golden-Bear Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. ~ Mahatma Gandhi ing and being in harmony with what I think, say and do. As many of you know, I'll be getting married this weekend. Planning for a wedding can be a stressful time, but even with a few last minute glitches, we keep reminding ourselves of how grate- ful we are. With all the excitement and working on all the details, it's easy to forget about just being in the moment and enjoying the journey. Luckily, we're constantly reminding each other to "just breathe..." I never imagined we, as a couple, would have been welcomed so openly by this conservative community. I am continually grateful for the amazing folks who make up Quirky Quartzsite; full time residents, part time residents, new visitors and long time snowbirds. Being at the QIA's 50th Anniversary Dinner was a walk through the past and just happened to be held the same weekend as Selma honored the changes made in the past 50 years. It's good to remember the past so we don't make the same mistakes. A lot has changed in Quartzsite, too since I came back in 2004; now my life partner and I can legally get married and I won't have to say, "it's complicated" any longer. We will be in harmony in what we think, say and now do in our lives. I encour- age you to do the same. Thank you for supporting this amazing journey.
