Started in the early '60s by a group of young artists who loved the stage, the organization has grown to one of the foremost community theatres in the state. Its productions rival those that are seen in cities much larger and its stable of volunteer performers have more than earned their acting chops as they share the stage with professional actors from across the United States. Over the years, the theatre has mentored the growth of many young performers who are now treading the boards on Broadway. As the theatre moves forward under the direction of Tom Quaintance, the artistic director, it continues to concentrate on what it does best – telling great stories. A native of Eugene, Oregon, Powell came to Fayetteville after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Missouri State. He says that while he has a number of favorite roles, his greatest role will always be as husband to his wife Jae. The duo team up over the summer to produce the children's theatre camp at the CFRT. During his short tenure with the theatre, Sean Powell has become one of the city's favorite actors so much so, that he was named the Best Actor.
