Quite simply, the organization's raison d'etre is to encourage local citizens to create and maintain a cleaner and more beautiful Fayetteville. One of the main ways they do that is to encourage community involvement through community wide clean-ups designed to eliminate waste and trash from our city's streets and byways. The organization addresses three core issues: litter prevention, beautification and waste reduction. Since its inception, the organization has sponsored nine citywide clean-ups. More than 9,000 volunteers have hit the streets, collecting more than 111 tons of litter along 216 miles of roadside. Volunteers drive the organization, whose volunteer head is local businessman and city leader Bobby Hurst. His passion for the city can be seen in every orange trash bag that dots the city's roadsides on clean-up days. From start to finish, one's feet literally never touch the ground throughout the ZipQuest course. ZipQuest is designed and the guides are trained, to engage visitors in the topography as well as the flora and fauna that thrive on-site. Undoubtedly, the site's most striking feature is the 120-foot-wide waterfall, a rarity in North Carolina's coastal plain. Views are enjoyed at heights of up to 80 feet and speeds up to 30 mph, on a course that is designed with respect for the tree's natural growth and minimum impact on the environment. Thanks for your vote! If you truly want to know the heart of a community, you can see it in the way they treat those who cannot take care of themselves. In this instance, the true heart of our community can be seen in the way we treat children who have been abused. The heartbeat that drives that effort is the Child Advocacy Center, whose purpose is to alleviate the trauma children experience once a disclosure of sexual abuse or serious physical abuse occurs, by creating a community of collaborating advocates. The organization's vision is to help build a community where children live in a safe and nurturing environment free from sexual and physical abuse, and its mission is to join hands with community partners, providing a safe and childfriendly center that supports the prevention, investigation and prosecution of child abuse.
