CITY LIFE Best Place to Commune With Nature Cape Fear Botanical Garden 536 N. Eastern Blvd. 910.486.0221 www.capefearbg.org Since 1989 when the first group of volunteers and gardening enthusiasts met at FTCC to share their passion and formulate a vision, there was never a doubt that they believed that Fayetteville and the Cumberland County community should have its own botanical garden. Many dedicated community residents like Dot Wyatt, Vivian Hollingshed, Bruce Williams, Martha Duell, Roger Mercer and Mark Lynch were just a few of the initial enthusiasts who came together to establish the first friends of the Botanical Garden. Years of hard work (like real physical labor) and deep commitment led to community, business and municipal partnerships that netted us the priceless natural venue we enjoy today: the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Under the leadership of Executive Director Kensley Edge, whose vision balances the garden's venues and resources to create the natural ambience that makes the CFBG Fayetteville's perennial destination as the Best Place to Commune with Nature. No doubt these 70-plus acres of cultivated gardens with features like the River Walk, Heritage Garden, PWC's Water Wise Garden and Children's Garden will continue to grow and develop. The only improvement we would like to see in the future is for the CFBG to remove their candle from underneath the bushel. Let the CFBG light shine! This venue needs to be promoted and marketed as the awesome facility it actually is. They need to tell their story and tell it often. community, generous spirit and contributions make Fayetteville and the Dogwood Festival a great place to live, work and play.
