N 17, 2010  LETTERS FROM PAGE 4 BLM NOT LISTENING It appears that BLM has forgotten that the public lands belong to the public, and that they are the caretakers. Yes, they are charged with making sure that these lands are not abused, as is the public. Common sense must rule here. ATV enthusiasts must unite and become the “squeaky wheel” to stop possible trail closures. I don’t mean to storm their offices with your demands, but to organize, to write letters expressing your concerns as to the social and economic impact on “we the people”. Washington, DC 20240 Patricia Anderson, Quartzsite Town Council Member .DM. RE: THE Q In 1959 as a teenager growing up in Quartzsite, I wanted a Q on a mountain as all other towns around had. I went to all the business people in town and got donations for the supplies needed to paint the Q. With the help of my father and a few of the local children, we painted the Q. It is disgraceful that the local town officials don’t think it is important to keep it up. By the way, that mountain, at that time, was called, “Mill Hill”. An old timer [Editor’s note: I don’t normally print anonymous letters, however this was so interesting with a touch of Qtz. history, that I couldn’t resist. The Town’s Arizona Centennial Committee of Quartzsite is working with the Scholars’ Academy students to refurbish the “Q” in the next month] NO MORE POLITICAL POSTURING The Midterms are over! I’m just sitting here savoring the sweet silence. No more empty rhetoric. No more political posturing. No more fact- free allegations. Thank God we don’t have any of that in Quartzsite. I was fortunate in meeting three of the incumbents; two Republicans and one Democrat. They won reelection. All three of these folks are dedicated public servants. The other two I voted for were not so lucky. I hope they try again because I think they did a good job serving the people. As for the rest, well, I’ll just say that unfortunately they were elected because they were so good at churning out negative advertising General Store Quartzsite FOR ALL YOUR GROCERY NEEDS! None had innovative ideas worth consideration. I don’t believe the founders of this Republic envisioned a class of professional politicians. Enough of this stuff. I do have P 5 Cemetery News!
