N 17, 2010 QPD to conduct traffic enforcement detail The Quartzsite Police Department will be conducting a traffic enforcement detail on November 24, 2010. Extra officers will be assigned dur- ing the evening hours the day before Thanksgiving, which is one of the busiest travel days of the year. Officers will concentrate their efforts on speed, aggressive driving and DUI enforce- ment on Highway 95 and Main Street, within the Quartzsite Town limits. This will coincide with the efforts across the State in cooperation with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, and is the first of several de- tails that will be conducted through- out the holiday periods. “We want to do everything we can to help ensure that travelers have a safe trip to their destinations for the Thanksgiving Holiday.” said Jeff Gil- bert Quartzsite Chief of Police Vandalism in Quartzsite Submitted by Joe Winslow QUARTZSITE- Another senseless case of vandalism occurred last Saturday at Rice Ranch Swap Meet. Tommy and Ta- tiana Crutti were awakened at 8:20am by a neighboring vendor, who informed them that someone had destroyed their colorful patio umbrella. The couple dis- covered that the umbrella had been re- peatedly slashed by what appears to be a razor blade or very sharp knife, then flattened into the ground. Neighbors heard and saw nothing. The couple’s small children Babette, age 17 months, and Nathanial, age 7 months, were sleeping nearby when the incident took place sometime Friday evening or early .DM. Saturday morning. Police are investigat- ing and will increase patrols in the area. The Crutti’s came to Quartzsite on the advice of a friend in California. They lost their home in Louisiana due to fore- closure, and that, together with other financial difficulties helped them decide to try and support themselves and their children by opening a small food stand. They are busy refurbishing a small trail- er to sell from. Pastor Mike Hobby of the Isaiah 58 Project, is helping with a commercial refrigerator, and Anita Carl- son, of Operation Hero Comfort, has donated an awning. The Hot Dog stand is located at Space A-21, near The Gam- blers building at Rice Ranch. Stop by and visit them. What happened to them is a shame. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Quartzsite Police Department at 928-927-4644.
