During the contest, entrants grapple in a pool of gravy for two minutes to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice. Carol Lowe, restaurant manager of the Rose 'n' Bowl Pub where the event took place, said people came from "far and wide" and the atmosphere was "absolutely bouncing." Competitors are encouraged to don "fancy dress" and are also graded on entertainment value. "It's very messy," Lowe conceded. The Aristocrats The Kitchen at London House, a popular restaurant on the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom, put their foot down in August when they rolled out their new menu with no vegan items, the Daily Mail reported. The eatery used to feature some vegan selections, but owner Sally Cooper said they stopped because of a "militant minority. ... (W)e got fed up with the arrogant, 'holier-than-thou' attitude. ... If you want vegan food, go to a vegan restaurant ... Your choice does not fit with our style of cooking." Spooky The owner of a "cursed fridge" in England has been posting fliers around London, offering the haunted appliance "free to collect" to anyone who can live with the "soul within," the New York Post reported. "My stepmother had a heart attack on our kitchen floor in the middle of an electrical storm," the poster explained, "and her soul was transferred into the computer unit of our smart fridge." The owner claims the fridge is judging them on "how many slices of cheese I've eaten or whether I've properly put the lid back on something. She has to go." In an even odder twist, however, the attached phone number rings not to an individual but to a kitchen showroom. Hmmm ...
