An assortment of outdoor amenities, including picnic areas, horseshoe pits, walking trails, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, athletic fields, natural areas, and children's playgrounds, are here for you to enjoy. They offer kayak tours, basic archery classes, and they are an ecoEXPLORE Hotspot. This is an incentive-based citizen science pro- gram for kids in K-8. All facilities are open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis unless they are reserved. To find out how you can reserve a picnic shelter or athletic field for your special event, contact the park office at 910-433-1018. Well- behaved, furry family members are welcome to enjoy a walk around the park too, but they must be on a leash and under your control at all times. Best Place for Taking a Hike/Best Place for Doggie Walk Cape Fear River Trail 631 Treetop Drive 910-433-1547 www.fcpr.us/parks-trails/trails/cape-fear-river-trail The Cape Fear River Trail is a perpetual favorite and long- time winner of these Best of Fayetteville titles. No matter what brings you to the trail — exercise, relaxation, communing with nature, a brisk walk with your human or canine friends — you will be glad you came. The trail features over 5 miles of 10-foot-wide paved one-way trails through an amazing array of trees, plants and wildlife. Walkers, runners and bikers love the spectacular views of the Cape Fear River. The terrain ranges from flat to slightly hilly. Signs along the trail explain the wildlife and plant life. In addition to the wooden bridges, including one covered bridge, there are more than 1,000 feet of boardwalk through the marsh and wetlands along the trail. Just under 3 miles of the Cape Fear Mountain Bike Trail is now accessible off of the Cape Fear River Trail. It consists of two sections on opposite sides of the trail. Parking is available at both ends of the trail: the southern terminus at J. Bayard Clark Park Nature Center, 631 Sherman Drive, and the northern termi- nus at Jordan Soccer Complex, 445 Treetop Drive. Amenities include rest rooms at both ends of the trail, portable toilets along the trail, and benches, tables and security call boxes. The trail is open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to dusk.
