This celebration will feature a library-theme storytime, activities, games, music and special guests. Is this library an important part of your life? Do you have a favorite library memory? SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1 PINWHEEL MASQUERADE BALL CAPE FEAR BOTANICAL GARDEN 11 a.m. Civil War author Colonel Wade Sokolosky will present his most recent book, "North Carolina's Confederate Hospitals, Vol. I, 1861-1863." Sokolosky offers the first definitive study of this forgotten history, revealing the key players and how losses from disease, sickness and the early military operations in both North Carolina and Virginia generated the require- ment for military hospitals. Sokolosky is one of North Carolina's leading experts on the 1865 Carolinas Campaign. Wade has lectured throughout the country, speaking to roundtables, various societies and organizations, and historical sites. Books are available for purchase in the museum gift shop. This event is free to the public thanks to the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex. WORLD HABITAT DAY FAYETTEVILLE HABITAT RESTORE 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Celebrate World Habitat Day with the Habi- tat ReStore with a store-wide sale! Shop, volunteer or donate at the Habitat ReStore. Every purchase, donation and volunteer will be entered to win a Craftsman Tool- box. There will be free lunch and Sweet Frog frozen yogurt! World Habitat Day is a day to reflect on the state of towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. The ReStore is located at 3833 Bragg Blvd., 910-920-4657. SPOOKTACULAR CHARCUTERIE THE DOWNTOWN MARKET 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Downtown Market, located at 122 Anderson St., is super excited about its first Halloween-themed class of the year. They have partnered up with Rebekah from Beehive Yourself, to host a fun-filled 2 hours. This class includes a spooky charcuterie board to take home, veggies, meats, cheeses, dips and assorted pickled items to fill your board and nonalco- holic and specialty-themed honey adult beverages. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4 THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 WOMEN'S HEALTH FAIR 4101 RAEFORD ROAD 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Wellness & Opportunity Center pro- vides programs and educational opportu- nities for its members and the community. This free event will provide information and resources surrounding women's health. Information will include fitness, domestic violence, breast cancer awareness, sexual health, health screenings and more. Take a hay- ride through deep dark woods, past aban- doned buildings, ancient ruins and more, while defending yourself against ravenous hordes of zombies! Other attractions include an Extreme Haunted House, which is bigger and scarier than last year. WADE SOKOLOSKY PRESENTATION 801 ARSENAL AVENUE 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. Join the Child Advocacy Center for their Annual Pinwheel Masquerade Ball & Auc- tion to Unmask Child Abuse. The Pinwheel Masquerade Ball & Auction is the premier event in Fayetteville. This elegant night features culinary delicacies, live and silent auctions and a celebratory atmosphere you won't soon forget. Tickets and tables can be purchased in per- son at the Child Advocacy Center, or order online. Semi-formal attire, black-tie optional (with your own elegant mask!). Seating is available for all guests. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1 THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 "MOTHER OF NORMANDY" AIRBORNE & SPECIAL OPERATIONS MUSEUM 3 p.m. In celebration of All American Week, join ASOM for a screening of the film, "Mother of Normandy," a documentary about a woman who bridged an ocean between her beloved corner of France and the families who lost loved ones in the battle for the liberation of Europe during World War II. Simo- ne Renaud, the wife of the wartime Mayor of Sainte Mere-Eglise, spent 44 years expressing to the families of the fallen and to surviving veterans of the D-Day invasion her undying gratitude for freeing her country from Nazi occupation. Fo- llowing this screening, there will be a discussion with Monsieur Maurice Renaud, son of Mayor Alexander and Simone Renaud, and Doug Stebleton, producer of the movie. This is a free event.
