SPOTLIGHT 44 | | Fall 2017 Call it the perfect fi t. In 2008, American Airlines Federal Credit Union was looking to add a crucial position to its Marketing Department. Someone who could help deliver a consistent tone and voice and reach members through the multiple pieces of collateral the department publishes, in addition to helping direct creative initiatives. Todd Camp answered the call and has played an integral part in his role as Marketing Communications Manager. Taking the skills he honed over 20-plus years as a professional journalist at the Fort Worth Star- Telegram and Denton Record-Chronicle, Camp has been instrumental in communicating the launch of many products as well as overseeing , the publication you hold in your hands. "I think a lot of people who are members here somehow are involved with the airline industry and many have a keen understanding of fi nance. But that doesn't mean everybody does," Camp says about his approach to the audience he writes for. "There are people who are members because they have a relative who is an airline employee, but they may have nothing to do with the industry. I just fi nd that it's much easier if you put our products in terms that everyone can understand." Camp not only tells the Credit Union's story and helps communicate the types of products available, he also listens to member-owners through its social media channels. "I oversee our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds," he says. "I really enjoy helping people by listening to what their problem is and offering them a solution." Camp's passion for assisting member-owners comes from personal experience, as the Credit Union has been able to help him, as well. "I came to the Credit Union with a mountain of debt," he says. "I jumped in with both feet and through refi nancing my house, refi nancing my car and paying off high-interest debt, I've estimated that I paid off somewhere in the neighborhood of $60,000. I'm one of those people who, when it comes to meeting other members, I'm happy to share my experience in terms of how the Credit Union can change your life. It literally can. I've been there."
