Page 4 A clown gets a name! One bright, sunny, fall afternoon, a silly clown welcomed the children get- ting of school busses. The children were dressed in strange costumes; some fun, some scary, some cute, some hairy. It was the famous Quartz- site Halloween Caravan pulling into JR's RV Park. Tables were set up with business owners ready to hand candy to the children. No one had seen this clown before. Curiosity arose about who was behind the painted face. But the clown did not speak. Children smiled and laughed as the clown danced around them, being ever so silly, and waving to everyone. After visiting each table full of sweet delights, the children returned to the busses. The clown frowned as the clown did not have any candy. One young girl reached into her bag and gave the clown a lollypop. The clown was so excited and jumped for joy! The clown ran back to the tables and got some candy to hand to the little girl. The clown danced in circles for that was a special moment. The child's mother said, "Now, that's good karma". That sweet little girl with her very generous gesture did not know it, but she gave the clown a name, "LOL- LYPOP". So LOLLYPOP is excited to have a name and looks forward to seeing you "THE PEOPLE'S VOICE" Letters to Editor Policy Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers. Thank you little ones for your smiles and laughter and sharing! Until we meet again. Lots of smiles, LOLLYPOP To the people of Quartzsite; To those who have missed the new things happening around our Town (well not really brand new), times are changing. People are changing and the economy is really changing. Our old things have gone away. I am speaking of all the attractions we used to have, which are too many to name, but you all remember them. Well, we have some people here in town that have taken the bull by the horns, so to speak, and are coming up with new ideas to attract people and give them things to do rather than just shop. Proud Neighbors of Quartzsite, the Arizona Centennial of Quartzsite Com- mittee and a few others that have sprung up this last couple of years show what can be done. I attended the appreciation get together Friday night at the "Rock Motel", yes, Rock Motel. We have artists here in town who are great and they're going to be working on paintings for a couple of weeks. Please make sure you all go to the big steel building at Tyson Showgrounds, corner of Hwy. 95 and W. Kuehn, on IRONWOOD OUTPOST search for the solution to share with the com- munity, keeping the benefit of all in mind. Letters considered libelous, in poor taste, on a personal issue, mean spirited or dominated by Scripture quotes will not be published. Third party letters will not be accepted. To avoid confusion over people with com- mon or similar names, writers must provide a full name and indicate the name they are known by. Writers must provide a full street address and phone number. Carol Kelley, Quartzsite lishing of a letter to the editor submitted by Dennis R. Hegeman, of Quartzsite. I am disappointed for the fact that the Parker Pioneer made no effort to con- tact me to verify any of the statements made in the editorial by Hegeman. His letter is far more than an "opinion" as he states that in a recent meeting with me, I informed him of a "new policy" regarding intoxicated customers leav- ing local taverns. Thank you for the addition of the bull riding…that is where I come in. Hi, my name is Timber Tuckness. I rate and is there is no "new policy". His statement is misleading your readers that the Quartzsite Police Department will target patrons of establishments that may sell alcohol. Hegeman is ap- parently disgruntled over the arrest and conviction of a family member. If a member of the public calls the 911 dispatch center to report an intoxicated driver and provides a description of the vehicle and driver, then we have an ob- ligation and duty to respond to the call for service. This is not a "new policy". The Quartzsite Police Department hopes that when people choose to con- sume alcoholic beverages that they do so responsibly, and that they have a non-drinking designated driver. When people make the wrong choices and are caught drive intoxicated, we will enforce the laws for driving under the influence. I hope the Desert Messenger will be more responsible in the future before publishing information that is intended to mislead the public, especially when it comes to the concerns of law enforce- ment for public safety. Quartzsite Police Department am a Pro Rodeo Clown. I work around 150 performances a year all around the U.S.A. and Canada. I get a chance to meet many people inside and outside the rodeo arena and first time events like the bull riding during the Country Bash are very hard to get started. So when we started planning this event, we thought it would be good to try something new; a smaller arena with less animals and more participation from local (non-bull riders) to get everyone that attended a feel of being a part of the event. I believe it was a good as a first time event that I have ever been to with many kids getting into the act along with 3 adults that climbed up onto the big bulls and give it their best. The local VFW Commander was the grand finale with top bull riders from around the state of Arizona giving tips and showing him how to use the bull riding equipment. He climbed on and said, "Let's go, boys!" They let the big bull out (bigger than a compact car) with a ragdoll on the roof holding on with one hand; the bull jumps right then left and back again, but cannot throw off the VFW member. The horn blows and the rider jumps off. To his surprise he has made the 8 second buzzer! Thank you all that attended the Quartz- site Country Bash 2011 from myself and all the crew from the Broken Slash P Rodeo Co. We felt that your addition of our bull riding to the Quartzsite Country Bash was an success and we hope to bring it back next year bigger and better.
