November 2, 2011 LETTERS FROM PAGE 4 Scoop the poop I have to take a moment to commend it first with my pooper scooper. Maybe people don't understand that one way disease is spread is by flies and other dogs sniffing donations on our streets and walkways. I haven't seen the dona- tor yet, could be the tan dog that arrives in a white van, or the younger couple with the young black lab, or maybe the little white poodle type. Whomever it maybe, please folks take a minute and scoop up your dogs leavings. I thank you and so do other walkers. I'll sign this "Dog Person", I don't want "Poop Rage" to show up on my doorstep. Sincerely, Dog Person [editor's note: normally not accepted, but I under the current circumstances, I understand. There's times even I would like remain anonymous, too!] ery citizen responsible for Las Casas de Quartzsite and Senior Housing. It takes a village for humanity to be com- plete, and right down the road from our library stands a desert village serv- ing all generations. I'm especially ap- preciative of the Mexican families that grace us with their beauty of inter-gen- erationalism...yeah, it's cool to have gramma, cousins, sisters and brothers, aunties and uncles as not only your loved ones but also your friends and neighbors! A project of this magnitude, bearing blossoms profound took many steps to complete and much vision to maintain. Much Mahalo to the Women's Club for bringing this oasis to our desert town. Hygeia Halfmoon Quartzsite, Arizona It takes a village Aloha, this letter is in honor of ev- our town for finishing the bike/walking path along East Quail Trail Street. The trees are thriving and the benches are a welcome break for tired legs. Now, the other side of the story. I have the op- portunity to enjoy the path everyday. The part I'm not enjoying is walking www.DesertMessenger.com well when someone lets himself or her- self become a smart aleck. Webster's Dictionary describes a smart aleck as an obnoxiously, conceited and imperti- nent person. The big problem is, these persons tend to direct their energy to underhanded pursuits; intended to in- timidate, offend and denigrate people more inclined to normalcy. I have ob- served them publicly directing their ire at Town Officials and citizens on numerous occasions. They render the town no public or private service and take no part in civic activities. Their methods are to disparage and destroy. They hide behind free speech for them- selves but not for others. The real shame is with the citizens A real shame It's not only pitiful but shameful as very interesting to hear the history of some of Quartzsite's Pioneers. Ever since Quartsite's beginnings vol- unteering and neighbors taking care of each other has been away of life and continues to this day, this is why we love it here. Whether you are here for the season or just a few days, welcome to all and come back soon. Cowell, north of Qz Post Office Halloween Caravan and close to 200 children and parents boarded 3 school buses and 2 church vans to "trick or treat" through town. This event was once again a huge success thanks to all the hard work of Anita Carlson, the event coordinator. Anita did a fantastic job organizing and running the caravan. I would also like to thank Police Chief Gilbert and his officers, and the fire department for Page 5 their support. The caravan would not be possible each year without them. Scholars' Academy once again donated a bus for us to use, but this year we also had two buses sent over from Bouse. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. McClenning for always supporting this community. For the kids that wouldn't fit on the 3 buses Alliance Church was generous enough to let us use two of their vans. There were multiple chaperones on each bus that help to keep track of all the little ghouls and goblins to make sure everyone is accounted for and ev- eryone is returned safely. Thank you for being so giving of your time. I would also like to thank all the RV parks and businesses that participate in this won- derful tradition. It truly takes an entire community to pull off the caravan. This is something my children look forward to every year and something I hope continues for a very long time! A Grateful Parent, Monica Timberlake, Quartzsite
