P 4 There must be something... I’ve just returned from a ribbon cut- ting ceremony for another new busi- ness located in Quartzsite. It occurred to me that we have had at least three new businesses open in our town within the last month. People will continue to invest in our community because they see a great opportunity. They like our full time population of over 3500 residents, (plus a couple of grumpy old geezers). And, what’s not to like? We have a Library that is second to none in our state. We have a high school that is the envy of other communities throughout the state (our football team is pretty good, too…undefeated!). We have absolutely first class police and fire departments. In the ten years or so I’ve been a resident, I’ve seen roads paved, side- walks made, street lamps installed, and streets and highways broadened. Sewer and water lines have been put in all across town, and yes, we’re continuing to put more in. Now there must be something to draw folks here. A town is just a bunch of buildings and streets. It takes a lot of good people to make a town work, and to make it prosper. We have an abundance of good people here in Quartzsite. I know many of our resi- dents are unhappy with the current town political atmosphere, but if you “THE PEOPLE’S VOICE” Letters to Editor Policy Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers. Letters should be no longer than 300 words, and may be ed- ited for grammar, content and length. We invite you to not only see a problem, but search for the solution to share with the community, keeping the benefit of all in mind. Letters considered libelous, in poor taste, on a personal issue, mean spirited or dominated by Scripture quotes will not be published. Third party letters will not be accepted. To avoid confusion over people with common or similar names, writers must provide a full name and indicate the name they are known by. Writers must provide a full street address and phone number. Rvers can provide the location of park/BLM land, etc. Street addresses will not be published. Phone numbers are for verification only and will not be printed. Mail letters to: The People’s Voice, Desert Messenger, P.O. Box 3185, Quartzsite, AZ 85359 or E-mail to: desertmessenger7@yahoo.com 928-785-7204, 541-218-2560 .DM. THE PEOPLE’S VOICE recall, we’ve been through all sorts of adversity before and we’re still here! In the early 90’s we had venal and cor- rupt politicians. Over the years, we’ve had Monsoon floods, terrible electrical outages, micro-bursts, and other severe windstorms. We’ve even had a couple of earthquakes! But, with all that, we are still here! We are not going to let one greedy and corrupt man take over our town. We are here to stay. We will remain here long after he has finally left town. So hang in there, folks. Our town is growing and prospering, and no one can stop us! Joe Winslow Quartzsite Shame on you After looking at all the signatures on all the Recall turned in, I am totally shocked. Why in the world would any of you citizens sign recalls against all of the Council? Don’t you realize just what is taking place in our Town? All you have to do is read the ad hoc com- mittees report on Foster. He has done some very illegal things that hurt our Town. The damage that you have caused by signing the Recalls on every one of the QIA Welcome back members, friends & visitors! QIA office (only) will open on Mon. These Councilpersons are your neighbors and you know them as honest, God-fear- ing people. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I’m certainly ashamed of you as I am sure that I know everyone of you, except for the illegally registered voters. I’m very disappointed in Hal David- son, as he does not have any reason to reject all the Council as he has done. He is like a little boy that takes all his toys out of the sandbox and goes home. I wonder, would many of these signers have signed if they knew the full story. I know some of you people must feel terrible now because you have found out what your mayor has been doing. But now you must live with him as you voted him in office. Not my problem, but yours. Wes Huntley Quartzsite Positive energy This is an exciting time here in Quartz- site and if you sit quietly for a moment you can almost hear the buzz. The win- ter visitors are arriving and the energy is so positive. A number of them have stopped into my business and mention how good the town looks. It does look good. The excitement of our first an- nual Quartzsite Country Bash is sure to get the town talking. The positive energy and cooperation amongst organizations, business’, and individuals that the Arizona Centennial Celebration of Quartzsite is going to create will, in itself, become the driving force for harmony in this community. Even our most recent Town Council meeting went off without a hitch. I was please to see that even our Mayor is coming around and showing his sup- port for the police department by voting in favor of the requested grant to assist our local officers. O 6, 2010 Nay sayers beware…it is all good in Quartzsite and it will only get better! Michelle Lukkasson Resident and Business Owner Harmony and Conflict? It’s exciting to celebrate harmony, rec- ognizing all that is right and good. Just like keeping a clean house, it doesn’t stay that way on its own. Sometimes we have to do some deep cleaning before we can celebrate an organized home. Such is the case with challenging conflict...it’s the only way to restore har- mony, the only way to get our “house” back in order. Stress robs our mind and body of en- ergy, which is why methods of healing require a mind/body therapy. It is this truth that led me to my first reiki treat- ment just hours before attending our last town council meeting. Our local reiki therapist, Barb gently cradled my head in her hands and brought me to a point of relaxation that allowed stress to slip away. The beauty of non-invasive therapy is that it’s apparently benign effect shows results as circumstances reveal themselves and we witness how differ- ently we handle situations that once befuddled us. As I left her office at Palm Plaza and headed my little baja toward town hall I wondered what exactly I had gained from that thirty minute mind/body treatment...I was about to find out. Bullying behavior began in the first moments of the town council meet- ing, only to worsen with time and my response to the situation was new. Rather than react in anger and hostility, frustration and disbelief, I was blessed with an aerial view of our town’s present circumstances and knew in my heart that we are, in fact, heading in the right direction.
