O 6, 2010 Submitted by Joe Winslow The snowbirds are coming! The snowbirds are coming! Yeppers, it’s that time of year again. We say hello to old friends, and welcome the first-timers to our town. They are going to want to eat, to drink and just kick back and have a good time. Are you guys ready? Got plenty of inventory? Got the display cases, canopies, and chairs ready? Got a spot picked out to set up in? Got your vendor’s sales permit? Or your business license, if required? Oops! Not to worry; just stop by the Town Hall and we’ll be glad to help you with all that stuff. And while you’re there, pick up an armload of the new Quartzsite Visitors Guide to hand out to your customers. It’s got a lot of in- formation, and it all targets our Winter Visitors and their inevitable questions. If you’ve been away for the summer and just got back into town, you may notice a lot of improvements have been made, and many are ongoing. We have a brand two new RV Parks on Hwy. 95. Quail Run RV Park spared no expense in setting it up. The Scenic Road RV Park just had a rib- bon cutting Saturday. The Quartzsite Elementary School .DM. Ths snowbirds are coming! The old Q Laundromat, now Main St. Laundromat, has been upgraded to in- clude a nice little eatery (opening soon) in addition to showers, and of course, laundry facilities. Stop by and say hello to Jerry and Michelle. We have a new “Really Good Jerky Store” next to the old Stuckey’s building on W. Main (B-10), which should be opening very soon. Speaking of Stuck- ey’s, the building is being renovated and a brand new restaurant will be located there. No word on when construction will start. I almost forgot! We now have an Ani- mal Shelter. It’s the first place you should check if you’re looking for that lost pet. The phone number is 928-916-0657. Ask for Patty or Roger. We have many, many projects in the works. Please stop by the town hall and see the display wall between the Library and Front Office area. This should be the best winter season ever! (Well, I have to say that; it’s expected because I’m a member of the Town Coun- cil. Still I think we will have a great winter season!) I look forward to seeing you folks around our town. Bye for now, Joe. Special training for mayor & council QUARTZSITE- There is a special train- ing session scheduled for the mayor, town council and staff, planned for Thursday, October 14 at 6pm. This is a publicly noticed training session. The training will be held at Town Hall. At the September 14th Town Council meeting, the Council voted to approve the recommendations of the ad hoc ethics committee. One of those rec- ommendations was to ask the League of Cities and Towns to sponsor a train- ing session for the Mayor and Council and staff. Executive Director of the League of Cities and Towns, Ken Strobeck will be conducting the training, with at- torney, Bill Sims of Moyes, Sellers & Sims from the League. This training session is open to the public.
