Best Place to Commune With Nature Cape Fear Botanical Garden 536 N. Eastern Blvd. 910.486.0221 www.capefearbg.org While very few people would think of the interstate as a peaceful place, if you take a short turn off of the busy highway onto Eastern Boulevard, you can fi nd an oasis of peace at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Don’t believe us, then believe the folks who voted in the Best of Fayetteville. They’ll tell you that once you get off the highway, and step on one of the wooded trails, or wander by the river, you can see nature at its best. From its landscaped gardens to its walking paths, you’re sure to fi nd a place of peace and contentment where you can not only commune with nature, but also yourself. Best Local Festival Dogwood Festival Liberty Point Building 145 Person Street, Fayetteville 910.323.1934 www.faydogwoodfestival.com Fayetteville, the City of Dogwoods, with that as one of our city’s many monikers, there’s no question why the Dogwood Festival takes top billing in this annual poll. The festival, held each April, celebrates all that is awesome about our community: music, the arts, its natural beauty, its people and its food! If by some insane reason you haven’t made it to a Dogwood Festival before, we’ll give you some advice. Go early, take advantage of the shuttle buses. Bring chairs or blankets for the concerts. Wear comfortable shoes for the walking, and bring lots of money for the shopping, and well, the food. But keep in mind, that just about everything else is free, including hot concerts by national recording stars who rock the park on Friday and Saturday nights. The Dogwood Festival may only come once a year, but it lives in the hearts of Fayetteville citizens all year round. Best Change to Fayetteville in 2010 Downtown For more than 20 years Fayetteville city planners debated and argued and planned for a revitalization of its downtown. There was talk of a water display or a giant mound. But in the end, the renaissance of downtown is closely tied to the construction of a new city hall, police department and the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. With those three buildings anchoring its tired streets, the downtown began to blossom and take root. And yes, it has been years in the making. There have been baby steps, like the start of the fi rst 4th Friday in the late ‘90s, and the opening of Huske Hardware about the same time. The downtown has seen its ups and downs and has hit some snags along the way, but it is thriving. For Fayetteville residents, one of the best changes to our city this past year was the dynamic, if somewhat troubled growth of its city center. We have to say we agree. Best Local Landmark The Market House Every community has a structure that has stood the test of time, and if its walls could talk, would tell the story of the community far better than any historian or writer. We believe that is true of the Market House. The structure which sits in the center of the historic downtown has seen the city through more than 175 years of its history. It has served as a center of commerce, with farmers selling their meat and produce underneath Authentic Italian Cuisine Brick Fired NY Pizza SOUTH PAW PET GROOMING AND CUSTOMERS Voted Fayetteville’s Best Overall Restaurant     678-8885     822-3590 18 BEST OF FAYETTEVILLE SEPTEMBER 8-14, 2010 THANKS FROM ALL OF US AT SOUTH PAW!  WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM VOTED BEST DOG GROOMer IN FAYETTEVILLE B G 200 20 2004 - 2005 - 2006 - 2007 - 2008 - 2009 #1
