August 14, 2013 letters to the editor Opinions expressed in letters to the editor do not necessarily represent those of the Desert Messenger. FOOD BANK THANKS YOUTH I want to thank Quartzsite 1st Assembly of God Church Vacation Bible School children for the bags they made and decorated for the Food Bank. Their efforts were greatly appreciated! The program the church did with these kids was great! Again, thank you, Carol Kelley, Food Bank Coordinator CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER Congratulations to my great and loving friend Debbie Peterson, now Debbie Westfall, was married to Rob on the 20th July. May you all have a super long, loving and great life together! You are so beautiful! Also, Happy Birthday Debbie Westfall; may you be having many more happiness and blessing! Congratulations to Debbie and Rob Westfall on their new 'grandson'! What a month for our great Deb - she was a first time Grandma and married in the same month! Glenda Hines Quartzsite 7 www.DesertMessenger.com TAKE PRIDE IN THE COMMUNITY It's hard to get very much outdoor activity. However I get a lot of TV time. I watch several news channels. I'm intrigued by the number of mayors who appreciate their towns; and are publicly proud to talk about what they want to do to make their town better and more prosperous. Towns like Yarnell, Wickenburg, Tempe, Scottsdale and many others. They take pride in their towns and show it. I don't hear anyone of them finding fault unless it's directed towards improvement. We aren't used to that in Quartzsite. Why do you suppose THAT, is as it is? Maybe we all should reflect in the mirror of consciousness. Elmer London Quartzsite TIME TO SEARCH FOR MANAGER I am writing today with concern over the position of the current Town Manager. When Ms. Bruno was approved as interim town manager, Ms. Bruno stated that she would place an ad to look for a qualified Town Manager. This has not happened. Ms Bruno then signed a one year contract as the Town Manager. I would like to ask the council to consider placing an ad on several professional help wanted websites and in the Arizona Republican paper help wanted classified section. This is in no way an attempt to oust Ms. Bruno, but a way for the town to seek qualified applicants for when Ms. Bruno's contract is up. It is a way for the town to see what options we have by interviewing several professionals who have had prior experience as a town manager. It has been known to take several months to over a year to find and interview qualified applicants for a position such as Town Manager. There is no reason why Quartzsite should delay this important process. It would be a conflict of interest to have Ms. Bruno involved in any aspect of the review, interview or hiring of this position. No applications submitted should go to Ms. Bruno. Perhaps once there have been applications submitted, these applications could be reviewed by a hired outside professional agency to review and interview the qualified applicants. At that time the agent could refer any qualified applicants to the Town Council for review and further interview. This would relieve the council from selecting someone who may not be as qualified as on paper. Again this is not an attempt to oust Ms. Bruno but a chance for the Town of Quartzsite to see if perhaps this is another candidate out there who could better serve the town and it best interests. Thank you for the opportunity to bring this matter to your attention. I hope that at least one of the council will sponsor this request and place it on the next available agenda. Jenny Mills Quartzsite I HAVE A DREAM ANNIVERSARY August 28th is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. People are calling for a ringing of all bells for freedom at 3:00 p.m. on that day. I hope any and all bells in Quartzsite will ring out for this incredibly important day! Suzanne Black, Quartzsite QUESTIONS RE: SEWER RATES My big question is why has the Town waited until the last minute to bring the rates before the public? To wait until a decision MUST be made in a hurry with little public input is just plain wrong. It gives the APPEARANCE of the Staff and Council attempting to push rates, with little concern for the private lot owner.
