Roundup FROM PAGE 1 "I think it's great that Dean Spanos and his fam- ily said, 'We want to make this work in San Diego,'" Goodell said. "They have an incredibly attractive option in Los Angeles but they decided, 'We're going to go and try to make this work in San Diego,' and we will do everything we can to support that. The same's true for Mark Da- vis. Mark Davis has a lot of options." Davis said he spoke with Goodell this week, but wouldn't elaborate on their conversation. The team's lease at the Coli- seum expires Feb. 17 and the Raiders have been in talks with the Joint Pow- ers Authority that runs the Coliseum about extending the deal for one year. In terms of Goodell's re- marks Friday, Davis said, "What the Commissioner said made sense." "That's great news," Da- vis said. "I believe he's go- ing to do whatever he can. I'd love to. We're the Oak- land Raiders right now, that's where it's at." But no doubt Las Vegas has him intrigued. Davis said Las Vegas is "absolutely a possible NFL city," then added: "Again, there's timing," Davis said. "It's absolutely an NFL city. It's an interna- tional city, it's a global city. The Raiders are a global brand, so it's got potential." And no, Davis, hasn't re- considered his thoughts on sharing with the San Fran- cisco 49ers $1.3 billion, sec- ond-year Levi's Stadium — host of Sunday's 50th Su- per Bowl between Carolina and Denver. "Again, I just don't think it fits the Raiders. All along and this is the one thing I will say, and I'll say it again for the 50th time, there's three words that mean something to me in a sta- dium, in a location, and that's ingress, egress and parking," he said. "The Raiders on game day, if you're around our stadium, if you see our parking lot before the game, the tailgating, it's probably the largest non- denominational gather- ing on a Sunday morning that you'll ever find, and I'm not going to give that up. That's just part of the Raider game day experi- ence. I just can't give that up." Raiders FROM PAGE 1 cussion issue is something we've been focused on for several decades ... and we have made great progress." • He would not say whether an NFL court vic- tory on next month's ap- peal in the case involving Tom Brady's role in "De- flategate" would result in a reinstatement of the New England Patriots quarter- back's four-game suspen- sion. "I am not going to speculate on what we're going to do," Goodell said. • He said there was a 40 percent reduction in play- ers arrests during the 2015 calendar year. • He said he would pre- ferthattheOaklandRaiders andSanDiegoChargersstay put, rather than moving to new cities, and pledged "to trytogettherightkindoffa- cilities long-term in both of those markets." • The league, which will have three games in Lon- don next season, is "consid- ering playing more games in the U.K." and a franchise there could be "a realistic possibility" if the sport's popularity continues to grow in that country. • Nov. 21, a Monday night, will be the date for Raiders-Texans, the NFL's first regular-season game in Mexico since 2005. • The league does not plan to change its policy of testing players for mar- ijuana, which has been le- galized in some states. • He said he "was disap- pointed in what I saw" in last Sunday's Pro Bowl and said changes could be on the way. Goodell FROM PAGE 1 tenure from 1981-92, who says his efforts to build a No. 1 defense were inspired at least in part by his for- mer coach. Then there's Kubiak, El- way's backup back in the day. Rick Dennison, the offensive coordinator, was a linebacker for Reeves. Wade Phillips, the defen- sive coordinator, origi- nally was brought to Den- ver for that job by Reeves in 1989, then replaced a fired Reeves as head coach in 1993. Bill Kollar, the defensive line coach, was an assis- tant to Reeves with the At- lanta Falcons. And Joe De- Camillis, the special teams coordinator, began his NFL career working for Reeves with Denver in the 1980s, then later went with him to the New York Giants and Falcons. Taking Reeves' role as father figure even further? DeCamillis is his son-in-law. "The one thing about coach Reeves that you'll al- ways get a feel for when you talk to him is how much he cares for his former play- ers and his former coaches. He couldn't be happier for us," DeCamillis said. "He's got his fingerprints on a lot of the guys that are here, which is pretty neat." Perhaps no one more than Elway, which might seem counterintuitive, given their publicly com- plicated and sometimes- contentious coach-player relationship, connected to Elway's desire to have a better-equipped and more wide-open offense. They were the key figures on Broncos clubs that reached the 1987, 1988 and 1990 Su- per Bowls, coming up short each time. "Dan was very struc- tured and very discipline- oriented. If you have a di- rection and you don't waver, then you'll be suc- cessful. That's what I (learned from) him. Right or wrong, he was going to stick to his guns if that's what he thought he should do," Dennison said. "And we were successful. We had a great run. Just couldn't win the last one." Elway later won titles in each of the last two seasons of his Hall of Fame career — the second one against Reeves' Falcons. "When you lose three Su- per Bowls, as we did, there's two people that get the blame for it: the head coach and the quarterback. ... No- body could have been hap- pier than I was (when El- way won his first), because he deserved to win champi- onships," Reeves said. "The next year, I wish he hadn't won, because I was on the other side. But I did think: If I'm going to get beat, I'm glad it's by some- one I cared a lot about and respected a great deal," continued Reeves, whose 201 coaching victories, including playoffs, rank ninth in NFL history.
