| SUPER BOWL SUNDAY | 16 SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2016 This was the first Su- per Bowl won on the fi- nal play. It also was the first won by Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. The Rams, with their high-octane offense — The Greatest Show on Turf — were favored by 14 points. But entering the fourth quarter, the Rams were down 14. Kurt War- ner got them to 17-17 with 90 seconds to play. No- body knew then that was too much time to leave for Brady. The sixth-round draft pick had entered his sec- ond season as a backup with three NFL passes to his credit. But he took over when Drew Bledsoe got hurt in Week 2 and now he was taking the Patriots 53 yards in nine plays, setting up Adam Vi- natieri's 48-yard field goal as time expired. Rick Gosselin: "I con- sider this the biggest up- set in Super Bowl history. This was a coaching vic- tory if there ever was one. Belichick figured out how to beat the Greatest Show on Turf with a defensive scheme that punished (Marshall) Faulk and the two wide receivers." Cam Inman: "The pa- triotic pageantry — five months after the 9/11 at- tacks — made for a mag- nificent opening. And how about that closing act to clinch one of the Super Bowl's biggest upsets?" Jim Litke: "The com- ing-out party for Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, who, love 'em or hate 'em, went on to become the best coach and quar- terback of this genera- tion — and maybe ever. Belichick's zany defensive schemes flummoxed 'The Greatest Show on Turf,' and Brady proved what a cool customer he was by engineering the first of many important late game-winning drives."
