October 19, 2011 LETTERS FROM PAGE 4 [Editor's note: Chi Walking focuses on the body-mind component inherent by incorporating what the folks call the Five Mindful Steps. Learn more at www.ChiWalking.com] Hygeia Halfmoon, Quartzsite Hello Neighbors Welcome back vendors and winter visitors. Please do not feed wild animals and Ferrell cats, if you have pets do not feed them outside as this will draw unwant- ed animals. During the summer several coyotes were seen in yards and wandering the streets, these animals may look cute but they can be dangerous. If you have cats or small dogs do not let them out without supervision or enclosed in a fence that is coyote proof. We hope you will join Quartzsite in celebrating our upcoming Centennial that will climax on Feb. 12, 2012 many activities are planned during the time between now and then. Patricia Anderson Quartzsite Town Council Heap of thanks I would like to heap praise on our lo- cal police for their newly enhanced po- sition on public safety. In an hour-long private conversation recently between me and Chief Jeff Gilbert in his office, he informed me of his new policy. When alerted, his officers will be direct- ed to Be On the Look Out for intoxicat- ed customers leaving our local taverns. This look-out, based upon a 911 call from said tavern will lead to a subse- quent pursuit of the targeted vehicle. I applaud this new directive, and with the blessing of our city council, will continue this brave endeavor to forever eliminate our streets of this constant threat by drunken drivers. May God bless our police department and town government for this new ini- tiative. For once, I feel truly safe now as I drive through our beautiful town. Dennis R. Hegeman, Quartzsite www.DesertMessenger.com The Cemetery thanks you! The Hi Jolly Cemetery would like to give a special thank you to Dee Sheehan for all her work on the Cemetery Plant Sale October 1st. The time she put in was invaluable to us on the Cemetery Board. There are many other volun- teers that donated to the plant sale from hours, plants and pots. A few special volunteers that should be mentioned are: Bob Nickerson, Lynn Stimson, Gail Swanson, Bob Caron, Jann Fischer and Dennis Wilskey (Master Gardner). To all of you that bought plants, you all made our first Plant Sale a whopping success. Do not forget the Spirit Walk October 29th 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Hi Jolly Cemetery. This is a free fun learning event for the whole family. Bring you curiosity and enjoy the afternoon! BIKES FROM PAGE 1 Snowbird Trailer Park, Arizona West- ern College, RV Lifestyles, Everett's Towing, Clerks at the Qtz. Justice Court, Linda and Brian Ward, and Best Auto. A special thanks also to the staff at the Q-Check (they were going crazy try- ing to clean the store after three buses of people from an out of town band and some of the farm workers descended on the store just before they were set- ting up for the Cruise-In). They did a fantastic job, and so did all the volun- teers who helped give out tickets, etc. and brought the karaoke machine out for some great songs. It was a lot of fun, and although not all the kids got bikes, plans are in the works for another event like this at a later time. A big thank you to COPA and Barrett Covington for supporting the efforts of their station to bring the people out for such a great event. The next Cruise in will be on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. so be sure to come out and bring the family for some great deals on sodas, hot dogs, ice cream and maybe win one of the door prizes!!
