In celebration of the City of Fayetteville���s 250th Anniversary, the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum has put together a full tour schedule celebrating the history of Fayetteville and downtown. Here are a few tours coming up: Sept. 17: Downtown Historic Tour This is a guided tour of Fayetteville���s Downtown National Register District, which has statewide VLJQL��FDQFH DV D UHPDUNDEO\ LQWDFW WRZQ FHQWHU Governmental, commercial and residential buildings built from 1788 to the 1950s stand along the picturesque meanders of Cross Creek and the elegant classical avenues of the 1783 town plan. Participants will learn how Fayetteville developed from a colonial inland port through the mid-1950s using the natural and built environment to tell the story. Participants will travel via bus, but the tour does involve some walking. Sept. 22: 1812 Grave Dedication Within 50 years of Campbellton���s charter, this community would be called to action for the good of the country. Help us recognize soldiers of the War of 1812 from Fayetteville such as Gen. Thomas Davis, Sgt. John Huske II and Lt. John Eccles. Permanent markers will be placed at gravesites as part of the dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. at Cross Creek Cemetery No. 1. At the completion of the ceremony, participants are invited to the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum for a guided tour of the War of 1812 exhibit. This is a free event. Sept. 22: Historic Twilight River Tour Calendar of Events A leisurely two-hour evening tour of the Cape Fear River, in which participants will learn about Fayetteville���s early importance as a colonial port city and trade center. Many interesting and historic features along the river will be explained as participants enjoy the natural beauty of the ULYHU ��RUD DQG DQLPDOV 7KH WRXU PHHWV DW WKH SDUNLQJ ORW at Campbellton Landing and departs at 7 p.m. The tour has a fee of $20 and pre-registration is required.
