That���s something that Shinan Michael Lowery, of Christian Martial Arts, Inc., works hard to pass on to his students. With 32 years of experience, Lowery holds Black Belts in Karate, Jujitsu, Kungfu and Taekwondo. He also teaches the five traditional Japanese weapons, arnis and Chinese straight sword. Lowery is the founder of the system YESHUA���S RYU mixed-traditional martial arts and Black Belts for Jesus Association. The school is committed to providing quality martial-arts instruction to each and every student. All instructors have undergone a minimum of 480 hrs of instruction and is enrolled in leadership training. The center is non-competitive in that it teaches self defense, physical fitness and personal development. Instead of working towards trophies, the students seek self enlightment and a deeper spirtual understanding of ourselves and others through arduous physical, mental and spiritual training. This is the unstated motto of RedPoint Gym, a place where people are pushed to excellence. The refurbished warehouse has a number of programs to appeal to the adventurous and those who are merely seeking to improve their own physical fitness. Unlike many gyms, RedPoint is a place for the whole family. While there you can take part in a number of programs including: Climbing. RedPoint has an 8,000-square-foot indoor climbing wall that offers bouldering, top roping and lead climbing. It boasts of more than 35 top-rope stations, one of the largest top-out boulder walls in the state of North Carolina, a campus board and free standing moving treadwall, while maintaining a spacious, open feel where you can dream about your glory days of climbing K2. CrossFit. The gym has more than 8,000 square feet of a tortuously fun and invigorating CrossFit area. The gym offers group WOD���s (workout of the day) in the mornings and afternoons, Monthly CrossFit 101, CrossFit Fundamental���s Classes and copious amounts of sweating. Drink water. And, the gym offers a number of youth programs. RedPoint is open Monday through Sunday with the doors opening at 9 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The gym opens at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Riverside Dog Park, located near the Cape Fear Botanical Garden, opened in Sept. 2008 and was an instant success. A joint effort between the Bark for a Park Committee and Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department, Riverside Dog Park is open each day dawn to dusk; dogs outside the enclosed area must be on a leash. A small enclosure is provided for small dogs that weigh less than 25 pounds and another, larger area is set aside for larger dogs. All dogs must be legally licensed and have current vaccinations; tags must be securely attached to the dog���s collar. Have fun with your dog at Riverside!
